I thought I didn't like cats. Had dogs for all 78 years of life,
then, last Halloween, this orange long haired tabby about a year old
walked in between the ghosts and witches and told us he was staying.
Took him 2 minutes to cow the dog. Took him two days to learn how to
use the dog door. We named him Pumpkin, had him checked by the vet,
and fixed. He's about 13 pounds of trouble.
I think he's part Maine coon cat. I think he knows a soft spot when he
has found it. He LIKES to be petted (I never knew cats liked that) and
prefers to sleep on my feet - or in a desk drawer where I'm working -
or in the next chair. And tries the dryer when I'm doing laundry, or
any cubbord that gets opened.
And he comes in the house, lies down, and yells for company. Anyone
know how to get him to stop that at 3 a.m.?

First of all THANK YOU for taking in a new friend
Part Maine coon those are notorious eaters try to put some food out for
him so he can free feed
you can also leave out some toys for him to play with
You also have to be strong and not give in for attention at that time all
you are doing is enforcing a bad habit
Also you are very lucky
