Hi everyone. My daughter came home tonight with a kitty who was found in the
parking lot. He/She is so tiny, I am guessing maybe 5 or 6 weeks old. The
problem is I don't know what to do to care for the kitty. I have two cats
that are 3 years old. This kitty is adorable and I plan to keep him/her, but
what is the first thing I should do? Is the kitty old enough to see a vet
and get shots? What kind of food should I give him? We went and bought some
Fancy Feast and a small litter box for the kitty and he seems to be
adjusting just fine. I just need advice on the vet, food, etc....how old
before you can spay/neuter?
Thanks in advance.

I've learned that you can keep going long after you say you can't, that even
when you think you have no more to give, when someone cries out to you, you
will find enough strength to help!

First thing is to make an appointment for vet.
Second it may not be ready for solid foods and most likely will need
to be bottle fed for a while.

Hi Christina,
Congrats your new baby! I concur, please take kitty to the vet asap - she is
not too young. The vet will be able to give you an idea of what your next
steps should be including viral testing and the care you should be providing.
I would confine kitty to one room until she is tested for viruses (leukemia
and FIV), and to help your cats slowly adjust to one another after she is
checked over by a vet. I would wait until kitty is older to get shots. In
terms of food, if she has been weaned, a high quality wet/canned food from
pet store would be ideal (I personally like Wellness).
Best regards,
Jan

I agree with all the advice you've been given. It's a real must though to
keep it away from your other cats until she's tested and vaccinated. I took
in a kitten at a week old...she's 4 weeks old now and starting to act like a
kitty should. If your kitty is using the litterbox hurray...mine just
started..and only now and then. But, it will get better I'm sure. Good luck,
and bless you for helping the little one.

The first thing I do when I get a new cat is put them into a
seperate room until I can have a vet check them out.
I have other cas that I can't take the chance of them getting infected
by some undiagnosed problem.
The vet will advise what to do from there.

I took everyone's advice, had no idea that a kitten could have diseases that
could be transferred on to my other two cats. I have no experience with
kittens...but thank God "she" got a clean bill of health! The vet said she
is in great condition, she weighs 1 pound LOL, she gave me three days of
syringes for heartworm, plus she got tested for Aids and Feline Leukemia, I
asked alot of questions and was so glad that she's healthy. She's a real
sweetheart, too. My husband's in love with her lol...
I bought some revolution which the vet recommended since it treats so many
different things and she said she wouldn't even need to be on any special
diet.
Thanks so much for all of the advice.......it's very much appreciated.

vet said no special diet???
HMMM, you should feed her high grade wet food (innova EVO would be best).
That is the key, good food and love!
good for you and enjoy!
