[warning: this is a totally pointless rant. It has not point, poor
grammar & spelling, do not read unless *really* bored!]
When I was a kid I treated my cat like a little baby. Even when she was
no longer a kitten - she was an adult cat, she was still pretty small.
She was so cute - seriously.
I know it's dogs who like affection and cats that are meant to be
selfish & only want food. My cat was different. Even when fed, she come
to one of our beds (when we were lying sleeping) and she'd always curl
up (like a round circle) and sit right on/around/near our chests (on
top of the quilt)
I remember my cat used to sometime crawl under the quilt and sit by my
shoulders/chest. I could often feel the purring - like a vibration
(when i mean 'feel' - I dont just mean hear)
It still freaked me out when I was about 7/8 years old when I saw my
cat had caught a bird in the garden. She was so cruel - it would be
half alive and she would play with it. She would set the bird free -
just for a second - it would limp away and then she'd pounce on it
again.
another thing.. I remember in 1995/6 .. doing my school assignments. My
cat would come and sit down next to me & play with every object on the
desk. Then she'd sit on the monitor and just look at me. (I'd continue
working.. avoiding the distraction.. cos the assigment is so overdue).
Then she'd go and sit right on the keyboard - actually sitting on some
keys.
Remember cats - cute as they are , are very vicious killers. I suppose
that's nature for you. if they weren't I guess they'd be like goats,
grazing on grass
When I see a cat /kitten I get the same feeling when I see a cute
baby/kid
Cats are only 'selfish' when that is how they are treated. I have six cats,
and they all are loving, attention seeking, and know when I am in a bad
mood, and try to cheer me up.

I agree with you, Connie, although there are a few neurotic
exceptions to that, just like with people.
I would just like to add, that cats are not "cruel" hunters.
The behaviour they display when playing with their prey
is not done for enjoyment. It is as programmed and
instinctual as the python's programming for constriction
which is necessary to stimulate the reflex for salivation
without which eating is impossible for them. Even when
the prey is dead, they must grab and constrict, or
they cannot eat.
Cats cannot avoid the "mouse" game, it is in their genes.
They are effective hunters and that is the most that you can
say about them, not that they are "vicous" killers
(which is an anthropomorphism at best).
