I have a 3 year old. She was declawed when she was under a year old.
Prior to getting her declawed she never really scartched anything.
Since I have gotten her declawed she seems to scartch on everything. I
was just wondering if anyone knows why they do this? Is it just
instinct?

Get her a scratching post.  I had a cat that had been declawed (long before
I adopted her), and it was obvious that she still wanted to scratch.  I
bought her a carpet-covered scratching post, and she loved it.  Don't get
sisal -- it is too rough since your cat will be pulling her pads against the
post.  And please do not ever have another cat declawed.

Humans who have amputations often have phantom feelings of pain, or
itching, in the missing limbs.  Perhaps your cat is trying to scratch
an itch in the missing toe segments.

I adopted a declawed cat. I never even noticed he was declawed. He would paw
everything. I taught him how to paw a scratching post. He was leaving rub marks
on everything before that.

Damn rub marks.....  Have you ever thought of having him de-pawed?

I know you adopted the cat already sans-claws.  I just had to type the
above line because of the absurdity of de clawing.
