I mean, it's not enough that the food is there for them ... they need to be
personally fed, almost encouraged to eat, sometimes, even when it is
apparent that they are hungry. I guess their mother kitty spoiled them which
I think is kind of endearing.

In a way. The two litters that were born here at the house were babied
beyond, well, I don't know what. The older ones are about 6 months and still
nursing when the younger ones aren't busy. One of the coolest things is
helping a baby kitten find a place to nurse. A couple of them sleep on top
of me at night. I have to be careful to look when I wake up. And no, I do
not nurse them myself. : -) Nor does my wife.
