Cat Forum / General Topics / September 2006Roomate's cat keeps using my cat's litterbox.
Hi. My roommate's cat is always at my door waiting until I open it to use my cat's litterbox, which is kept in my bedroom's adjoined bathroom with his food, which he also eats. Whenever he goes in my room, I always grab him and put him infront of his litterbox but it doesn't seem to work. This cat is much bigger too, so it always puts these jumbo-sized sh.ts in my medium-sized cats litterbox. Please assist. > Hi. Why not gift the litterbox as a present to your roommate? Treat your kitty to a new box. However if your roommate use different litter or don't keep the box fresh and clean, you might just have to train the cat to do it at the toilet. || Hi. No. There are two bedrooms. My cat's litterbox and food is in my bathroom because there is room for it, his is in the kitchen closet. I have to keep my door open because my cat will claw and scratch at the door (and tear up the carpet) to get out or in, The other cat always comes in and sh.ts and runs out... which is a pain because his sh.ts are huge. I just want to throw him into the closet and keep him in there when he does it. Wow, you still have your cat? Anyway, grabbing a cat and sitting him in front of a litter box will scare him out of using it. Maybe for territorial reasons he used your cat's box, but now you have basically trained him to be afraid of his own litter box. Why don't you get a bigger box and let them share? You and the roommate can take turns cleaning it. If you resort to too stress for them over the box, the cats will stop using them at all. You have to be pretty careful about litter box behavior. Hee hee I could not resist...but what a great new word: [absurp]= 1) amiable cross between [absorb] & [usurp]....best use in a sentence: "Luthien has been occasionally provoked into loud and vociferous accusations against Muezza Glorio, alleging that he is trying to absurp her turf." --tension I agree, Rhonda. Cats will not understand the concept of a "private" litterbox (or food, if it is left unattended). Why not have two good-sized boxes, and you and your roommate take turns cleaning them?
