My 6 year old tabby has been getting mats all over his fur. Every year he's
been getting these mats more and more. During the winter it's really bad but
in the summer they get better. This year though they did not get better. I
try combing them, cutting them out but I feel I'm not getting any results. I
have noticed though that his skin is dry and I see flakes. Anyone have any
suggestions?

I used to have a cat who matted & knotted badly even with regular
brushing. I finally just started taking him to the groomers for a buzz
cut about twice a year! He looked kind of funny but didn't seem to
mind.

If you haven't already you might want to check out a device with the
wonderful name of Furminator. I have a Maine Coon cat and it does wonders
when it come to managint her coat.

Has he seen a vet lately? A bad coat could be the result of an underlying
medical condition.
Also, is he eating a good premium canned food? I have heard many a stories
of cats switching to a good quality food and the coats becoming shiny and
smooth.
