when my cat (RIP) used to fight/confront other cats, her fur used to 'stand up'

Years ago, I remember when my cat /kitten (cute little thing) would
confront the neighbours cat in our front garden (when I was there) her
fur (all around her face and neck) would 'stand up'.. I have no idea
how... I mean I can't make the hair on my head stand up!??!!

Sure you can, just not as much.

Check the hair on your arm next time you get goosebumbs. The triggers may be
different, but its the same basic principle.

Our Buffy gets a ridge down her back if she gets really scared and agitated
and her tail fluffs ups like a squirrel's.  The ridge down her back stands
up so sharply we call her a "Buffosaurus".  It takes a while for it to go
back down again, too.
