Kitten getting the right nutrition?

I have a 3 month old kitten and for the past 6 weeks I have been giving her
dry food during the day and wet food for dinner. But now it seems that she
doesn't eat the dry food during the day, or she just eats a little bit and
waits for the wet food to be served. Could this be a problem? It's not that I
want her to eat too much, but I also want her to have the proper nutrition
and I'm not sure if that's possible on a wet food only diet. I don't want to
just take the wet food away because she likes it so much... so I'm not sure
what to do. Thanks!

IMO a wet diet is more nutritious   and  keeps problems  from happening in
the future  such as stones, UTI  etc

PHIL has some info

this site is run by a vet.  The more studies 'they' do, the more they are
finding out just how bad dry food is for cats.  I am at the point where I
call it junk food, and equate it to McDonalds type food for kitties.  Just
as you wouldn't feed your kids that stuff for every meal, you shouldn't rely
on dry food for a cat either.  They are starting to link it to obesity,
diabetes, and kidney disease.  And if anyone tries to tell you that dry food
is good for a cat's teeth, they are just buying into an old wives tail.

"they" are starting to come around to the thinking that a low carb high
moisture content (aka wet food) is the best.  To find foods that are lowest
in carbs, you can check out this site.  It was made for diabetic cats, but
since this really is the diet that all cats seem to need, it is very useful.

So why are carbs in food if they are so bad?  Cause they are CHEAP!  the
more corn and or rice the companies can shove into their food, the cheaper
it is, so the higher their profit margin..   One major additive that is very
cheap but is hard on cats is wheat gluten.  Try finding a cat food with out
it.  It is very hard.

You are actually fortunate that your kitten prefer wet food because it is
actually much healthier than dry food.  I can't help you with specific
kitten nutrients, but I feed my two adult cats on a 12-hour schedule.  They
get premium canned food.

when you say a 12 hour schedule, do you mean like feed them in the morning
and then at night? because i'm not home during the day... i could start
feeding her at 6 AM and then at 6 PM if that's what a 12 hour scehdule is...
thanks!

Yes, that's what I mean.  Whatever your morning schedule is would probably
set the optimum time for evening feeding.  It doesn't need to be precise,
but I stick as closely to it as possible, and it works very well for my
twosome.  The one thing I am not certain of for you is the age of your
kitten.  I have no experience with kittens, so please verify whether twice a
day is adequate.  I think it should be workable at that age, but I don't
want to mislead you.

I feed premium cat food, mostly Wellness canned and Innova Evo canned. Each
cat gets 1/3 of a 5.5 oz. can twice a day.  They have precisely maintained
their weight on that amount and are in excellent health.  Holly weighs a
little more than 9 pounds, and Duffy weighs just over 8 pounds.

Your kitten is still growing so the 12 hour schedule isn't one I would agree
with.

When it's come to my cats when they were kittens, they got one 3.5oz tin
first thing in the morning, had kibble to munch on during the day, and then
got two more 3.5oz tins over the course of the evening.

Personally I don't believe in 12 hour fasts. My cat is 5 and as well as
having a small amount of kibble for her to snack on during the day and
overnight - her 5oz can of food, is divided into four meals so that she
never goes hungry.

since i'm at school during the day I think that i will do the 12 hour diet
and also keep out the dry food during the day. thanks!
