My old cat is doing a lot better

I said I'd keep you posted when my cat dies, but it seems it won't be for now.
Yesterday, the night was fresh and he ate quite a bit. I mixed some of his
blended gelatin + tuna mix with regular cat food and he ate everything.
Almost, at first. Of course, he managed to leave some cat food so that I'd add
more of his favorite gelatin mix. That's what I call having a picky tongue:
the gelatin and cat food were quite well mixed.

I also fed him some ham. I suppose I shouldn't, but it's well cooked and he
likes it. Anything he like goes, these days!

I'll also give him about 1/6 human multivitamin pill a day until he resumes
eating dry food... that is if he ever does. He really seem to appreciate
playing "fine gueule". I also give him about 125 mg of glucosamin/day because
he seems to have bone/arthritis problem, but I believe the temperature drop
has more to do with his recovery than these supplements.

So, to all the vet senders, yes, at more than 17 y/o, my cat is bound to die,
but not today. Cats are pretty good little vets themselves. When mine felt a
heat wave was coming, he knew his old heart would have a hard time gettimg him
through. So he went on a diet, shedding every single gram of fat in his body.
I wished humans could do the same. The heat wave certainly has been harder on
me than on him...

Comes September, he'll put on some weight.

Glad to hear he's redeveloped his appetite! Continued good luck to you
both!

I'll be doing fine. As for me, I "see the vet" a lot, but it doesn't help a
lot. I believe I'd be better off with someone looking after me :)

That was: He'll be doing fine.

Glad to hear your cat is doing better.
What is this Gelatin mix,  my 17 year old is hard to feed he only eats if he
likes whatever I give him. But if he likes something today doesn't mean he
wants it tommorrow, but 2 or 3 weeks down the road he will eat it again.

Drives me nuts, have 5 or 6 types of canned food, fresh Liver and let him have
whatever I'm eating, at 17 it won't hurt him.

the 2 young cats have been very sick but are recovering the old guy never
bothered him at all.

> What is this Gelatin mix,

Gelatin is like Jell-O, but without sugar, color and flavor. It's made out of
bone marrow and my cat seems to like it a lot. I began feeding him this when I
saw he was eating all the gravy of cat food and sometimes left the food itself.

Normally, I just put a can of flaked tuna in the gelatin. Or else, I cook a
(cheap) salmon steak in the presto and flake it into the gelatin. Then, to the
fridge. This time, to make sure I'd eat all the fish, I put the fish / gelatin
mix in the blender before it went to the fridge.

I know the feeling. I'm afraid sometimes we're driving those little things
whimsical with all the care we give them. If one of my uncle who was a farmer
was still living, he'd say we're complete idiots. For him, cats were a mouce
chasing animal, no more. I doubt any of his cats got to more than 10 years old.

Fancy Feast makes an Aspic type of food you might want to try if they
like the gelatin stuff.  It is a food that comes in a gelatin type
mix.  2 of my furbabies like it and 2 do not.

He prefers his master's home cooking! Maybe he just likes to see me work for
him :)

on them !!  :-)
