Afraid for two-faced kitten

I just can't believe that someone could enter a stranger's house in the
dark between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., manage to locate the mother cat,
manage to get the kitten away from the mother, exit the house with the
kitten, and not disturb any of the occupants in the house. Most of us
have had to get up at night to look for something or other, and know
it's hard to move around a house in the middle of the night without
waking someone up.  That goes double if the people live in an
apartment.

The kitten has been missing for five and a half days.  If the last
feeding it received was at 1:00 a.m. Friday, the kitten would have died
by Sunday or Monday, just from dehydration. It's hot this time of year,
and a dead animal--even a small one--would very probably have caused an
odor in the house by now.

I am wondering if the owners got tired of the publicity and all the
inquiries, and have just said the kitten is missing  in order to get a
little peace.  Maybe they had the kitten put to sleep and didn't want
to tell anyone.  Maybe they took the kitten to a vet and don't want
anyone to know where the kitten is.

If a stranger really took the kitten away, that person has done a very
cruel thing.  A kitten that doesn't get its mother's milk is set up for
a lifetime of problems, even if it survives.

I hope this kitten wasn't taken away and killed or just dumped
somewhere.

I'd imagine if someone took it, they might be a hoarder and not take
care of it the way it should be taken care of. It may seem cruel to
say, but there's a good chance the kitten wouldn't have made it much
longer anyway. Maybe the owners said the kitten got lost because it
died and they didn't want thier young son to know? They had a son that
loved that kitten didn't they? I hope some bastard didn't just take it
and throw it in a river. It wouldn't make sense for the owners to put
it to sleep if it seemed healthy. I know if I had a two faced kitten
I'd want it to live as long as it could no matter what the cost of
taking care of it would be.

Is this kitten indeed alive?  Around here a number of news resources
were reporting it died.

This is the first i've heard about it missing.    Previous reports
were that it died.

A cat burglar maybe?
