Would like to request purrs for 2 furbabies that were sent on way to the
'Bridge this past week please. They were both strays that that were hanging
out at my daughters.
The first was a new stray that had only been coming around for about a week
and was about a year old I would say. It was nothing but skin and bones when
I managed to get it and take to shelter. Was told had Feline Lukemia.
The second one I just took to the emergency animal hospital today after
feeding him for about the last year and a half.
He came in the AM but would not eat. It looked like he had a sore on his
nose so I figured that was why he would not eat.
He came back later and I tryed to feed him but no go. He meowed and I could
see that his bottom lip was missing as well as the injured nose. In the
process of grabbing him to get in the carrier I could see his tongue was
bright red when he was trying to bite me.
His nose was burned as well as his tongue and his bottom lip destroyed. I
have no idea what happened to him. He could not eat or swallow and was
drueling all over the place. The person at the emgency said that I was doing
the right and kind thing having him put down. If so why do I feel so bad?!?!
A grown man standing in the pet emergency room crying over some dumb cat!!!
I would love to find out what happened to him and if it was a case of abuse
do the same to whomever did it to him. I know that is not the Christian way
but I can not help it. These people that let their unfixed pets run loose
to cause more strays and / or abandon them deserve the same.
Please send some purrs on the way for these two furbabies.

It's always hard sending an animal that doesn't deserve it on their way. You
did the right thing hard as it was. Condolences.

If that person exists, I hope you find them.

Although I know there is nothing that can ease your pain, maybe you can
find a little cosolation in this poem.
May I go know?
Do you think the time is right?
May I say goodbye to pain filled days and endless lonely nights.
I’ve lived my life and done my best an example tried to be.
So I can take the step beyond and set my spirit free?
I didn’t want to go at first, I fought with all my might.
But somethings seems to draw me now to a warm and living light.
I want to go, I really do. It’s difficult to stay.
But I will try as best I can to live just one more day.
To give you time to care for me and share your love and fears.
I know you’re sad and afraid, because I see your tears.
I’ll not be far. I promise that, and hope you’ll always know,
that my spirit will be close to you wherever you may go.
Thank you so for loving me. You know I love you too.
That’s why it’s hard to say goodbye and end this live with you.
So hold me now just one more time and let me hear you say,
because you care so much for me, you’ll let me go today.

Purrs fur their spirits. Their suffering is at an end and they'll met
all the fine cats that have gone on before them. Someday we'll all
meet again and we'll all be in a better place.

Sorry to hear about your losss.
I'd point out it may not have been abuse. Maybe the cat was cold,
got on somethign to stay warm and burnt itself? Maybe there was
a house fire, the cat got burnt saving it's kittens from the house?
Don't automatically assume abuse. A while back there was a cat on
the news who was burnt badly, there was a house fire, the cat went
into the hosue five times and pulled out five kittens. The cat ended
up dying but it saved all five kittens in the process.
In the meantime both cats will be waiting for you at rainbow bridge.

What you are saying is possible but here in Michigan it has been in
the 90s for the last few days and this has happened on a day when it
has been in the 90s so I doubt he was cold or looking for a warm spot.
I know because I see him everyday and the day before he was fine.
Second it is a him so no kittens and there were no house fires around
here for the last week or so.
Third you have to know the area it happened which is accross from
what you might call "the projects" or VERY low income house. Pitbull
type dogs are the status symbol and they seem to get a kick out of
chasing and catching anything smaller then them. The one day I
overheard the tenents there talking about tossing a cat on the roof
and the buidlings are 2 story buildings.
An accident is possible but like I said if you knew the area and type
of people around there AND saw the cat I don't see how it could have
been an accident. The shape the inside of his mouth was - accident =
I don't think so!!
Anyway the poor thing is someplace better now where there is no more
pain, suffering or trying to survive (SP) day to day now and all he
has to do is play and enjoy himself and vist with all the other
waiting at the bridge for they earth bound loved ones to get there and
continue their journey.

One 100 degree days my cats park themselves in the hotest room in the
house. In Michigan maybe the cat parked itself on an outdoor air
conitionin unit and burnt itself? On the hood of a hot car?
Never underestimate the ability of a cat to find trouble.
I would point out even here where it 95+, we've had some very cool
nights. (Espeically in June when we had record rains and
record floods.)

Furball.....I thought my brother was the only one who would do that to
a cat.
The problem with determing the cause there are many hudreds of things
the injury could have come from. Might have been abuse, might not
have been. I'd had to see some innocent kid labeled a cat killer when
he was no where near the cat.

Like I said you would almost have to see the cat to understand why I
feel the way I do plus the emergency room vet is leaning towards abuse
according to the report I got from him. The only thing is that it
will be about impossible to track down the responsible person if it
was abuse.
I send a copy of the report to the local animal control officer but
they are "so low on funds" according to them that it will most likely
end up filed away someplace. I wish I would have taken oictures abd
sent them to the local TV news outlet.

But the problem again is that nobody can say positevely it is abuse.
Leaning towards would not be good enough for a court of law,
especially if you're going to charge someone.
You may never know whether it was abuse or not, only the itself
can say so and it can't communicate that fact.
It shall remain one of the mysteries of life.
Why is the ER vet leaning towards abuse? A burnt nose doesn't
necessarily mean it was abuse. That could have been something
else like an overyly curious cat.

Don't worry because you did, worry if you don't. Compassion for other
living things is what it is all about.
Hummm, do bad mice go to cat heaven to spend eternity being chased
around ;-)

Yes. It's the "emotionally challenged" who are handicapped.

I think there are no bad mice, just like there are no bad cats. They
are just cats and mice doing what they were intended to do and trying
to get by as best as they can, not unlike hoomans.
For instance, "We have freedom fighters: They have terrorists."
butthe job description is pretty much the same. "Bad" in a relative
term.

I posted the following post back on July 17 about 2 supposedly stray
cats I had put down because of illness.
I was talking to a nieghbor that has 7 cats that just run the
nieghborhood. He puts out the cheapest dry food he can find and that
is about it. I was telling him about the cats I had to put down and
how I felt about people that have cats but do nothing for them and
just let them run When I told him about the grey one with the injured
mouth that I put down he said that sounded like his grey one. I asked
if he had seen it and he did not have the slightest idea where it was
or if something happend to it.
It is now August 23rd and they were put down July 17th and he never
even knew it was gone or what happened to it. When I asked if I could
send him the emergency room bill for $270 for the cat he just laughed
and did not even say thanks for looking out for it. Really great cat
person!!!
I suppose the reason his cats started hanging out at my place is that
when I started feeding strays they found out they could get a good
meal there (Two houses down from his). Even though all the actual
strays are gone or deceased for now the nieghbors cats still come down
and I do not have the heart to stop feeding them.

Sounds like you could 'capture' and rehome "his" cats and he wouldn't even
notice, let alone care.

I have seriously thought about it. It fact he "has" one that has
become so friendly that whenever I set outside he jumps on my lap and
curls up and goes to sleep.
When I told him that if I did not have all the cats I am allowed I
would take that one. All he said was "It is a friendly cat".

Purrs for the little ones on their way to the bridge.
It seems like you could gradually start to care for any number of these
cats if you have the will to do so. They will know a good thing when
they see it. After a time if you've been caring for the cats and he
hasn't and he doesn't know where they are, (he may have an idea), then
I would say they are your cats. If he makes a fuss, you can always say
that they are not yours, you are just hosting them as guests. No one
can complain about that. After a time, if the cats choose not to go to
one place or to go to another, that's their business.
He cannot try to take you to court, because you'll have done nothing
wrong. If the cats are free to come and go as they wish, you've stolen
nothing, although I'm not a lawyer and can't give legal advice. It
seems to make sense to me. You never actually claim that they are your
cats. You're just looking after them.
Perhaps after a time if you pay vets bills, keep those and eventually a
history of care should carry a lot of weight. Keep an eye out to see
if he brings more cats into the area and doesn't care for them.
He's not to be persecuted too much. Even putting out cheap cat food
and nothing else is *something*. So many people can't be bothered to
do even that. Yes it doesn't address the larger problems, but it's a
sign of some caring at least, however minimal.

The legal limit for pets in Saginaw, MI is 7 and these people have 7
cats and 4 dogs.
We have a Humae Society but it is staffed with 3 volunteers that do
not go out on calls nor have any legal standing to do anything. If
you take a pet of any kind there the first thing they say is take it
to the county shelter.
We have a county animal shelter (http://scacc.thepetscorner.com/) that
will keep STRAYS for 3 days and right now is overloaded with kittens
so if they did take any of these they would most likely be put down.
They will not adopt out any pregnant animals. They automatically get
put down according to an article in the local paper. Nor will they
let any rescue groups take any animals because according to the
article they MAY be adopted out to a person that does not meet county
standards for adoptions. I guess what I am saying is basicaly, in my
opinion, this place is just a death row for pets !!
The ones that end up paying are these persons cats. With winter
coming it gets cold here in Michigan and these poor cats have to live
in it!!

Bad situation. OTOH, if there is a legal limit for pets in Saginaw,
you could report it to your codes enforcement department. Then again,
they'd just remove the excess animals to the pound where they would be
euthanized.
These people may reallly love pets, but they just don't have the
resources, time, or conscience to take care of them properly. It's a
tough call. If you bring their unfed pets into your home and keep
them, they most likely will just take on more.
It's a shame. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I hope someday
there'll be an answer, but I thank you for doing your best for the
kits.
