Yesterday my mom found my cat our inside/outside cat sitting by our
aprtment in a daze. She could hardly stand or walk strait, and she was
twitching/convulsing. We live in san antonio and It was a pretty hot
day out, so my mom figured it was just heat stroke (alothough it had
never happend befor and there's always plenny of water for her) and we
got her to drink water till she wouldnt drink anymore. It's now been
more then 12 hours and she's seems almost comletely paralized from the
neck down. She doesnt seem to be in any kind of pain, but im sure she
must have gotten hold of somesort of toxin, beacause my girlfriend saw
her earlyer that morning and said she wasn't walking strait. We haven't
taken her to a vet, and due to money we probably won't be able to. Does
any one have any idea what might be wrong with her or what we can do?
skuddo@gmail.com - 09 Jul 2006 17:56 GMT
I Forgot to add. She has pooped once and peed atleast 2 times, she can
kinda move her front legs and tail, but nothing ellse below her neck.

You have money for a computer and online connection but not enough to
take your cat, a living, thinking, breathing, feeling being, to the
vet. You people are messed up. Get your values straight and GENTLY
take her to an emergency vet today!

Well, now we know where your priorities lie.  After this cat dies a hooribly
suffering death because you won't take it to a vet for treatment, please do
the animal kingdom a favor and NEVER GET ANOTHER PET - NOT EVEN A GOLDFISH!

Ok, I realize vet bills can be high depending on what is done.  But, your
cat is obviously very sick!  Most vets will work out something for you even
for routine procedures like spaying/neutering.  Your cat is not going to get
better on its own and needs medical help.  Call your local vet, say what
happened, and ask about payment.  It can't hurt to call.  For all you know
it could be something as simple as a shot which wouldn't cost much.  At
least call.  We are only cat owners and can't help you with this.  I feel
very sorry for that poor creature and I'd have called my vet immediately
even if I had $5 in my bank account.  Most vets will work out something for
you.  Your cat is going to probably stay that way since nothing was done
right away, but again, I don't know.  For God's sake, pick up the phone and
just talk to someone. That's free.

I'd also like to add that my vet didn't charge me at all for just looking at
my cat when she had little black bumps all over her chin.  He told me what
was wrong and gave me some cleansing pads for the "acne."  He didn't charge
for the little "emergency" visit.  I had called earlier in the day to see if
I could come in and he told me to just bring her in.  I bet your vet would
do something similar.  For such emergency situations they might work with
you for payment.  I can't stand to think of that poor cat having no clue
what's going on and being paralyzed, possibly permanently for something so
trivial as money when you don't even know what it will cost.  At least try.
I'm a teacher so believe me, I'm no stranger to being very strapped for
cash.  But, I love my little cat and I'd never forgive myself if I didn't at
least talk to someone professional to see what might be going on.

Oh yes, this is adult-like behavior.

you ever think that this kid might love his cat, but has no money
to spend on a vet, and has no control over his parent's budget?

Sometimes life is not as simple as we would like it to be.  Maybe
someone could treat this kid with just a little respect and try
to explain what might be going on, and WHY it's so important to
try to take the cat in to a vet, without being so ugly and
insulting about it all.

I think people like me who are regulars on this NG, just get frustrated at
the stupidity of the vast amounts of people that come here to ask what they
should do, when it is obvious that instead of sitting in front of a
computer, they should be driving to a vet.  Regardless of a money situation.
And if you are that poor, perhaps you should give your pet to a friend or a
no-kill shelter so it can be taken care of properly.

I would point out not everyone has a vet nearby 24/7.  For all we
know the nearest vet may be four hours away.  And not everyone has
a car.

Okay, lets say for sake of argument that this poster's vet is four hours
away.  What do they have to gain posting on a newsgroup regardless of how
far away?   If the nearest vet is four hours away, then they live in the
Saskachuwan forests or something, in that case I guess they would not have
internet access either. LOL

I met this girl when i was livin in Chicago, and I ended up getting her
hooked on DXM. For a while she was skipping school and barowing money
just to get a fix. All her friends ended up turning on her. The
funniest thing was she actualy kept a puke bucket ready in her room.
After a while she relised what she was doin and doesnt do it any more
though. My advice though, if he doesnt have a gf.. Get him one. This
would probably help him alot

Alright here's some ways to get down the liquid tussin.

You need some:
Gigner ale or sprite
Jolly Ranger Candys
100% Lemon Juice
Ice

put the tussin in the Ginger ale with a 1:1 ratio (the carbination will
help prevent vomiting)
drop 1-3 Jolly Rangers in and wait for them disolve. As far as the
lemon Juice gose its optional for this preperation, but i find
lemonjuice counteracts the strong bitter nasty taste of dxm and keeps
it desloved for better obsorption in the stumic. You need a good FL oz
(maybe more) of the lemon juice. If you do not have Jolly Rangers if
you use enough lemon juice it'll be just as easy to get down. The Ice
is the final tuch, and is much needed. Its like the diffrents between
drinking warm and cold beer or soda, Tuss is just much better on ice.

For Zicam:

The best way to get zicam down is to mix it with one of those Starbuck
frapochino deals you can get at most any grocery and qickshop. This
stuff is great. It gets that icky zicam taste out of your mouth and
when/if you vomit it makes it come up alot smoother.

My brother in law liveed in Nova Scotia for years.    The nearest vet
was clear on the other side of the island, about four hours away.

He had internet access though.   They do have phones and electricity.

Seriously...there's no need to keep going on the hypothesis that the person
may live far from a vet.  If this were a medical group and someone came on
and said that their son or other family member had suddenly become paralyzed
no one would be saying "oh, that's ok if he doesn't go to the doctory
because it may be quite a drive."  When  a living thing that you supposedly
love and care for become paralyzed for no freakin' reason  that you can see
you most certainly should be doing something about
it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even if you live in the middle of no where!  And we don't even know where
the hell this kid lives.  He's probably just  troll anyway.  After looking
at some of his other drug related posts, let's hope that he's a troll and
doesn't actually own an animal.  If he really does, someone should come take
it immediately!

Yes I agree that immdiate medical attention should be gotten.

But reality is in many areas the nearest vet/doctor/hospital may very
well be several miles away and transportation may very well be an
issue.

Wake up and smell the coffee: not everyone has an SUV in the drive wey
they can hop into at a moments notice.

And yes money can also be an issue. I've come accross vets who have
insisted they had to have full peyment that day or they would put the
cat to sleep.

Not everyone is as rich as you.

Not everyone has a few thousand dollars to drop at s moments notice,
an SUV available 24/7, or a vet that is less than four hours away.

Yes in an ideal world you'd get the cat to the vet in a matter of
seconds and be able to dial 911 to get help right away.   But you

few thousand? SUV?  You are really stuck on this SUV thing, what's up with
that?  You have a severe case of SUV-envy.  I hope you don't have any
animals with your mentality.  Poor animals.  What if your cat was paralyzed?
Oh, you'd be one of those sitting on your computer instead of TRYING to find
a physical way to help your animal.  Hurry, get your cat in a carrier and
hitchhike to the vet.  LOL

(a further example that some of the dumbest people can still manage to work
a computer).

No i'm tired of people who slam those who didn't evacuate in the
recent floods around here, during Hurricane Katrina/Hurricane Rita/
etc.  Too many of these people have the mistaken impression that
everyone in the US can just hop in an SUV and evacuate/get to

Well i'm here to tell yout that even in the US of A there are
people who are not rich, have no car, barley afford rent and
other necessities.

But yes there are actually some poor people in the US of A.

I have a car to get the cat(s) to the vet, but I also recognize that
not everyone is that fortunate. I've also had occasions where I was
taking the cat to the vet and the car died.  Some of us live in the
real world where stuff like this happens.

I'm glad poeple like you have a dozen cars you can use, that
those cars never die, and that you have an unlimited supply of
money.

I also have money but I recognize that not everyone is that fortunate.

There are too many in the US of A who bury their head in the sand

poor, going hungry, etc.

Even if the person was 100 miles from a vet, and broke as dirt... sitting on
the internet asking what they should do, is still pretty pointless.  It
doesn't matter in this case as the OP was a troll, but still there are a lot
of people that come here and are legit, and they expect us to truly tell
them how to fix their cat, when in reality the only one that can, is a vet.

Agreed but not everyone has an SUV sitting in the drive way ready to
drive to the vet in.

Some people don't have a car or the means to get to the vet.   And
around here in the US of A they don't allow pets on buses/traisn/taxi
cabs.

I'm glad some people are so ric they have an SUV in the drive way

here in the real world that is easier said than done.

Anyone that is not poor and down and out sure sounds like they are on your
sh.t list honey.  Every post of yours is going on about SUVS... having tons
of money... tons of cars...  rich parents....  what is your problem?
Deary, if I had all of the before mentioned things, I surely would not be
sitting in a newsgroup, I'd be on my yacht far away from you.

I'm older than dirt.  Many years ago people had compassion for the
poor, they was honesty and integrity.  That has since been tossed
under the bus.

Now there is a general opinion in the US of A that if you're not
worth a few billion dollars that you can just drop dead.

That is the kind of country the US has degenerated into.

You really are missing my point and it has nothing to do WITH NOT HAVING A
CAR!  For goodness sake, ANSWER FOR ME what is asking this question on the
internet going to help a person if they have a cat that truly is in trouble?
Especially if that person is not going to go to the vet no matter what we
say.   It's like talking to a brick wall with some people on this NG.

And you seem to be under the dilusion that everyone on her is in the
US of A, has millions of dollars in the bank, and has a dozen cars in
the driveway ready to use at a moments notice.

Not everyone is that well off.  Some people are not that well off.

And yes there are areas of the US of A where the nearest vet
is four hours away, and if you miss them on Friday afternoon they
are closed until Monday.

Oh I forgot.....you live where there is a vet right next door and
is open 24/7.    Takes you two seconds to walk there.

But yes the ideal situation would be to see a vet, but cats
rarely cooperate in this matter.   If they're going to get sick
they will do it late Friday afternoon when the Vet doesn't open again
until Monday.

And there you go again with millions of dollars and dozens of cars.   You
are obsessed.   I have one car that is 6 years old.  I have a regular old 40
hour a week job.  I have a budget, I stick to my budget, I save my money as
best I can IN CASE THERE IS AN EMERGENCY.  Geez, if you can't afford to care
for a pet, don't have one.  If you have a sick pet and cannot pay for its
bills, bring it to a no-kill shelter!!!!!!!

Okay I'll bite, where do you know of in the U.S. off the top of your head
that a vet is as far away as four hours?

No, I still drive my big a.s SUV.

Damn those scheming cats!

Still you haven't answered my question.  What are WE average joes supposed
to do to help a cat of a person just talking to us on a computer?    If you
can't get it to a vet, I guess it is just going to die, because you or I are
not going to be able to save it with our computer.    If you go on feeling
sorry for yourself because you drive a beater, live 4 hours from the vet,
have no money and are poor and homeless, I'm going to come over and beat you
over the head with YOUR computer that you can afford.

West Virginia.

BTW, I would add i'm pretty well off but i'm the probably the only one
that doesn't participate in the favorite sport of the US of
A.....,kicking the poor when they're down.

Many years ago people had compassion for others.  Now it is just
screw your neighbor, stab them in the back and kick them in the teeth.

Ha!  Apparently you've never seen my profession in a post.  I'm a teacher.
I think I literally just laughed out loud when I saw the "not everyone is as
rich as you" part of that post.  Yeah...not everyone is as rich as me.  Most
people are way more rich than me and yet if my cat woke up unable to move,
I'd still do something about it.  I really don't see why you're so hell bent
on defending any part of this stupid post.  My guess is you don't like to
admit that maybe you were wrong.

Would you take one of your kids to the doctor if you had to pay for it?

There are payment plans available, usually. Don't be a c.nt and do the right
thing.

To be fair the original poster may be posting on the computer at
work, at the local library, or in an internet cafe.

The poster may also be using a free Wi Fi connection.

As far as the cat goes i'd have a vet look at it.   I would suspect
nerve damage, posible broken bones, etc.   The vet really needs to do
xrays to diagnos.

I would point out that the fact that the cat can go to the
bathroom indicates there is not total paralysis.  But beyond that
you need to see a vet.
