Arrggg....
There are about 4 neighborhood cats in my area. My next door neighbor feeds
them and I don't mind so much. But one of them had 5 kittens. We don't need
9-10 cats around here. I let the mother care for the kittens and guessed
their age at about 2 months. I feed them and they ate the dry cat food. I
rounded them up and took them to the local Humane Society (where I adopted
one of my cats). Well they turned me away as they already had too many cats.
So I took them to the County Animal Shelter. While I'm sure (?) this was for
the best... that place did not leave me with a good feeling. Perhaps I'm
over sensitive, though. They pulled the kittens out one by one and placed
them into a wire cage. The room was about 30' x 10' and there were about 3
dogs in this same area. I know those kittens were scared to death.
I'm not so concerned about that but I just have an awful feeling that the
kittens are going to be put to sleep. I keep telling myself that it had to
be done though (which it did). But I'm hopeful as I'd think kittens are more
likely to be adopted. I just hope they have some plan like the H.S. to
domesticate the animals.
After I did all this, I saw that there were 2 more kittens in my neighbors
yard. Darn!

Look, you are not the criminal here; you are one of the victims. People
have animals they refuse to spay/neuter and, golly gee, they go off and
pro-create more unwanted animals. The shelter you saw is what results.
Yes, some of the kittens may not be adopted and will be euthanized. Some
areas have no-kill shelters but not all and to be honest they are still
shelters and not homes. Stop punishing yourself for a crime you did not
commit.

Many cities have trap - spay/neuter - release programs for feral cats.
Call your local ASPCA and other animal shelters. They often have
animal traps for loan. If your neighbor is going to feed the strays,
at least get them fixed so that they don't increase in numbers.

The neighbors or the cats?
