My cat scratches, or should I say flexes her claws, on everything in site.
My couch, chairs, curtains.  I bought her a scratching post with a little
thing with a spring on the top.  She doesn't go near it.  What do I do or
what can I do to make her scratch that.  She loves to play with string, and
other dangling things but doesn't seem to want to bother with the scratching
post nor the springy thing at the top of it.  PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Thank you.

First,  does she like catnip?  If so rub some catnip on the scratching post.
Mine doesn't care much for the springy thing either but she loves massaging
her paws on the post.  Ours is covered with jute now but the one I had
before was carpet and she did not use it as much.  Had a big base though and
she loved sleeping on the carpet.

Second, when ever you see her scratching on the couch, chairs and curtains
grab her and take her to the scratching post.   Praise her for using the
post.  I never gave treats for doing the right thing at the time.  I did not
want to reinforce the bad behavior.   (I know she's a cat but praising our
Neko helped.)  That would be the kindest thing to do but if that doesn't
work keep a little spray bottle close with water and squirt her with it when
she scratches in the wrong place.

Other things that may or may not work - most cats don't like the smell of
oranges or like things that are sticky.  Get some orange fragrance to put on
the cloth items, make sure it is not going to discolor your furniture.  Mom
made a little bag with orange peels and cotton material for when she cat
sits at her house so that her friends cat doesn't get to comfy as she quilts
and often lays material on the couch.

Good luck,
