I have 2 cats, a boy and a girl, about 7 years old.
The girl is fine, but the boy is stinky as soon as you get close to his
private part area!
I don't make a habit of sniffing him there, but when he rubbed up on me
recently, I couldn't help but notice, and was shocked at the smell.
Is this normal?
Is it a boy / girl thing?
He is very clean in every way, so that is not the issue...
He just has a smelly bum!

I'm not personally familiar with this, but I have read posts about anal
glands and the smell having something to do with that. Perhaps someone else
here with more experience with it can help more.

It could be that his anal glands need to be expressed.
When it come to "Is this normal?" It does happen with both males and
females.
Best thing to do is to consult your vet.

His anal glands need expressing and isn't unusual in cats.
One of ours had that problem and since the glands were expressed we have not
had to put up with the particularly antisocial stench.

I had to take my male cat to the vet twice for this and sure enough as others
said, the glands need to be expressed. The vet showed me how to do this in
case his glands filled up again. Please have a vet show you how to do this.
The vet said that most cats release this liquid on a regular basis when they
poop, but some like ours, build it up so that the smell comes out in spurts
or gas.
There is nothing really abnormal about your cat, but you should have a vet
express his glands and show you how to do it.
