Hello all,

I have a question. I have long hair, and I am not planning on cutting it short (This will not help with my question).

I have a kitten that thinks that human hair is a plaything. She starts viciously grabbing it with her claws and teeth. How do I stop her from doing that?

No answer for you, but please set you news reader to wrap lines at 76
characters. Your posts are difficult to read as the lines go past the
right edge of the screen.

That's because you are using Forte Agent.  It is a crap
news reader.   Get a decent news reader, and you won't
have problems like that.

I have the paid version of Forte Agent.  Works fine for
me, wraps fine for me.    THAT IS WHAT THE SETTINGS ARE
FOR.

Agent is standard; all Microsoft news clients use MS specific message
formatting protocols (unlimited line length, bottom quoting, etc.).
If a standard client has trouble with nonstandard messages, it's not
the fault of that client - it's the fault of the program that
generated the garbage format.

Ted's right. Agent uses Usenet standard formatting. MSIE does not.

Please don't post phone numbers on usenet.  First you don't know
who the number belongs too, who posted the number, and
whether that was authorized.

There have been numerous cases where someone posted someone elses
phone number on the net.

I don't understand Forte. I just use what came with the computer. That is MS
Outlook Express. So it is not my fault. It is the fault of the person who
sent me the message about Forte. They don't understand that not everybody
has the same program.

It's the fault of someone who hasn't figured out how to set Word Wrap
in forte agent.   Extremely easy to do.

BTW, Outlook Express is probably the worst usenet newsgroup reader on
the planet.

And just because it is on your computer when you buy it doesn't mean
you're stuck using it for life.  There are many usenet newsgroup
programs, a number of which are very good programs, far superior to
Outlook Express.

Outlook Express is the worst program on the planet for Usenet.
Netscape is the second worst on the planet.

Agent lets you set the word wrap on messages.  What is so difficult
about that?

What about the millions of non-Windows users and other non-Agent users
whose clients adhere to the long standing usenet standards and expect
incoming messages to do so as well?

BTW, since Microsoft's recent use of their security updating service
to force installation of spyware and backdoor software on Windows
systems, it is no longer acceptable to deny that Microsoft is evil.
By extension, it is no longer acceptable to insist that their use of
non-standard formats and procedures to force purchase of their
software is a good thing.

I gave up long ago expecting other usenet messages to come in
already word wrapped, formatted, etc.

For that matter if it were up to me it would be formatted to the
small screen on my pocket pc.

So I learned a long time ago how to use the settings that
are in the Usenet Newsgrou Reader.

Those fall into two sets: Microsoft defaults, and everything else,
including Microsoft's somewhat hidden standard settings.

Mine does this every once in a while when I'm lying on the couch.  She'll
sit above my head and bite at my hair at the roots.  She doesn't get skin,
but the gag sound she makes afterwards tells me she doesn't like the taste
of my styling products :)  She rarely does this...maybe once every couple of
months.  I don't know if you use products, but my problem was solved on it's
own because she doesn't like the way it tastes so she leaves it alone :)
Christina Szeman - 01 Jul 2006 18:06 GMT
Hello,

I don't have hair products in my hair except after I take a shower (I have
one of those organic hair shiners). I don't know if that would work.

Hello,

My question is how do I stop a cat from playing and pulling my hair? Any
suggestions.

I hope that under 76 characters.

You have to be strong   when she does it  take her set her down and say
no.  When she grabs your hair  yell ouch
and keep yelling until she stops.   Try make a loud noise if that does not
work.
Kittens are like small children  they don't understand tell they are
shown.  You can't not play; sorry about the pun, with this bad behavior  she
will continue it if you allow it

On NO circumstance do you physical punish her

My kitten Ka' Shay  is in the biting phase and when she does it I do the
ouch ouch ouch loudly and she stops and lets go.

If you are lucky, she will outgrow it.  I have three kittens (pictures
link at <http://users.wildblue.net/daviste/>) that started doing that
at about 10 weeks and are still doing it two weeks later, but not as
often.  They have also mostly outgrown attacking my toes when I'm
trying to sleep.

Here is a news flash for you: set your news reader to wrap lines.
on my newsreader it wraps fine.

(But then I have word wrap set on my newsreader.)

Below is a line with exactly 76 visible characters and then a return.

I'm curious how this will display in my browser, Hogwasher, and in others.

You have to teach the kitten that playing with your hair is not acceptable.
Just as you would train to do other things.
The best training mimics the training a mother cat or a sibling would do.
If it is painful, say OW in a meow type way.  The kitten should stop.  If
not, then you need to take the kitten and put it where it can not attack
your hair.  If that doesn't work, if she rushes right back, then take her
and put her somewhere and ignore her for a few minutes.  to a kitten any
attention is a good thing.  the mother cats' last resort is to pin the
kitten to the ground so she can't do anything.  Don't yell, don't be mean.
the removal of all stimulation and shunning should teach her what is
acceptable.

and you have to do it when she is displaying the behaviour.  Cats don't get
delayed punishement, and kittens have an even shorter attention span.

Hello all,

I have a question. I have long hair, and I am not planning on cutting it
short (This will not help with my question).

I have a kitten that thinks that human hair is a plaything. She starts
viciously grabbing it with her claws and teeth. How do I stop her from doing
that?

Well, I do have a crate that I usually put her in, just to leave me alone (I
didn't say that just to be cruel). Maybe I should do that when she pulls
again. Besides, I've tried the Ow and that doesn't work.

It's it amazing how dumb people can be to come to this NG with such an
obvious question?

Ligthen up.    There was a time when I had my first cat and had no
clue what to do.  Now many cats later, many years later there are
still things that they do that baffle me.
Angie - 05 Jul 2006 00:27 GMT

it....  if your kitten is pulling your hair, you would stop them from doing
it

Stop her from doing it from day one.

Get a water bottle to spray when the kitten does something wrong.

But then I have long waist lenght hair and my kitten learned long
ago to leave it alone.  Along with other stuff attached like toes,
fingers, knees, etc.

Licking is fine, but no biting.
