Every time I push him off he goes right back up. Worse thing is, he
knows I don't like it because when I look at him or get up off my chair
he runs off. He still doesn't get it...

Still haven't gone to angry management yet have you?
Haven't  you learned no one in the group cares about your control issues!
Let alone your cat!
You can't control your cat if you try the cat will laugh at you and so will
we

I wouldn't mind so much if he didn't clog it with hair and get it all
over business documents.

Cat is probably there because it's warm, and it's close to you.  (Pet cats
like people, even if they are not so bright.)

Turn the printer off when you are not using it (not standby, off) so it
stays cooler.

Get a cover.

Or make some other place more attractive for the cat to be instead of the
printer.

I've never owned a cat that didn't do at least some things I'd rather they
didn't do, some more than others.  As a cat owner, one gets used to their
behaviors, and they are as individual as there are cats.  You may never
manage to correct this behavior, but it's not impossible.  Positive
reinforcement seems to work the best.

How long have you had this cat now?  You seem to have had compatibility
issues from day one, and it doesn't seem to be improving.

Almost a year, once he finishes his Purina One I'm going to try that
Nutro-Max food. I wouldn't dislike him so much if he didn't excessively
shed like he does. I don't think one can understand unless they saw it
for themselves. :) It's literally coats and coats of it... I don't know
if it's the AC or what.

Yes, I brush him daily! I don't know if it is the food or what, when I
first got him he didn't shed but since 5 or so months ago it's crazy!
He's probably around a year old now, I think he was born in June and I
got him near the end of August. Even when I first got him he had Purina
Kitten Chow and didn't shed but I now buy him Purina One and it's still
crazy, even with the brush I can still pick clumps off him. He is well
taken care of and spoiled! He has like 3 beds, a thing of toys he leaves
all over the apartment and my bed that he takes up most of.

I just can't figure out the shedding and I even read Lynx-Siamese aren't
supposed to shed very much but I can take clumps off of him. I do have
an AC I usually keep around 60 though.

This troll is having his fun making all of you dance.  Cat owners are a
caring bunch which can make us emotionally vulnerability.  Zeitgeist
considers himself a top drunk, when he is actually a miserable, lonely
run-of-the-mill drunk and destined for my killfile.  *Plonk*

Anyone who asks for advice or posts views you do not agree with is a
troll? Please... I could care less if you "killfile" me, as I don't even
know what that is. Furthermore, I don't consider myself an anything and
I've posted pictures of my cat on my website before. It's not like I'm
lying for fun and do not have one. -- If you bothered to search Google's
Group history you can see my posts expand back to where I wanted one,
had someone that would give me one, finally got one.
Thanks.

I don't know much about that particular breed and I don't know where you
live, but I can say that my short hair domestic tends to shed more in the
warmer months.  Since this is your first summer with him as an adult, that
might make sense. But, if you think it is a problem, I'd talk to your vet as
shedding a lot can be a sign of some issue.  Perhaps the vet can suggest
something.  In fact, I'd talk to your vet about all of your issues. Maybe
the vet can suggest a way to train your cat since you haven't found a way
that works yet.  I know that we all gang up on you here, myself included,
but it just breaks my heart to think of you being mad at this poor cat all
the time.  It's just being a cat.  IT can't help that it sheds, or that it
likes your printer...there are some things that just have to be dealt with.
Cats are like kids...sometimes I think they're worse!  Granted, I don't have
kids but I do try to educate about 75 of them a year, so I think I know them
pretty well :)  And my cat has a bigger stubborn streak than most of them
do!  But the difference there is that I've learned what needs to be done to
make her understand me and I know that some things I just have to live with.
I really think you just need to start paying attention and learning how to
"read" your cat.  I know I've given you tips before on how to handle the
attack cat mode.  Just put in some effort otherwise it's not going to
change.

Hi,

I have Birmans (longhair) and have bred and shown them.  The kittens
don't really shed much, if at all.  They don't start shedding until
after they get their adult coat--about a year.  All cats shed.

I invested in a Dysan vacuum cleaner and love it!  It helps with the cat
hair.

One of my cats liked to hang out on the computer monitor and was very
disappointed when I upgraded to a flat LCD monitor.  ;-)

Lisa....  :-)

I can brush my tabby for days and days and it just seems to make him shed
all the more. There is an endless amount of fur. It just keeps shedding and
shedding and shedding.

But I had a similar experience when I replaced the old TV with a plasma
screen. He used to jump on top of the old TV to get to a higher up window
sill.

Within 30 minutes of setting up the plasma, I turned to see the little guy
getting all ready to spring up on the TV. Before I could grab him he was
flying up to the top of the plasma, only to fall crashing behind it. He
walked out looking all stupid with that "I meant to do that" look on his
face. I suppose it wasn't funny but we laughed for hours about it
afterwards. It was hilarious.

By the way, the little guy was fine. Just a bruised and confused ego.

We have 5 cats.  They are brushed several times a week and we vacuum
weekly.  Still, there's a LOT of loose hair.  It comes with the territory
and I've grown used to it.

I often wonder ...
What do people mean when they say the computer went down on me?

He's a cat...not a super genius.  That's what cats do.  I've had mine for 2
years and she does things I don't like.  She runs off when I get up to stop
her because she knows I'm going to stop her.  Listen...you either have to
deal with it because you love the cat or give it to someone else who will
love it.  That's what they do!! Cat's rule the house...perhaps you're having
some alpha male issues.  At any rate, my cat still tries to knock a certain
picture off the wall, opens all of my cabinet doors, runs and jumps on me
when I'm sleeping...I could go on and on.  But, the difference is that I
understand her behavior and I'm fine with it.  I let her play with the
picture for a minute and she then gets bored.  Here's a thought...are you
near the printer when he's on it?  Maybe the crazy thing wants to be near
you!! AH! Who would have thought?! My cat is intrigued by my printer too.
Everytime I print something she gets on it and for hours afterwards inspects
it.  You're just going to have to accept the cat or give it up.  The
behavior WILL NOT change!  It does not care about your yelling, it just
thinks you're crazy when you do it.  Cats aren't like dogs, some of which
will be upset if you yell at them and all of whom generally listen if you
train them well enough.  Cats are the leaders of the home.  Humans are the
servants.  Learn to deal with it or remove both you AND the poor cat from
the stressful situation.  One more time...repeat after me...THERE IS NOTHING
YOU CAN DO.  THE CAT IS JUST BEHAVING LIKE A CAT!
ALBERT C. GOOD JR. - 06 Jun 2006 05:09 GMT
My cat had some interesting habits when it came to my dot-matrix printer.
One was that he liked to sleep on it.  It I wanted to use it I had to take
him off it at which point he would start a fight.  I presumed that it was
one of his favorite spots because it was warm and it was right next to me.
ventually I got rid of the printer and brought a chir into the computer room
and put it near the baseboard heater, for him to sleep on.  He didn't seem
to mind.  It was warm and soft.

And the kitty was nice and toasty warm and you froze your a** off.
Been there, done that.

And he never will. I have a cat that is fascinated by the printer (when it's
printing). Just train him and discipline him. Maybe put the printer in a
place that's difficult for him to get at it. If you don't use it all the
time, put it in a drawer in your desk. If you don't have a desk, put it in a
bookcase that has doors so you can close it up when not using it. Be
creative. Be patient. He can't help his fascination with technology. He
feels compelled. I don't believe he's doing this to spite you. He just can't
help himself. You're blessed if this is the only trouble you are having with
him right now : )

The cat will outgrow it.  I have an 18 year old female who climbs very
little.   The kitten climbs all over the place but as the cat gets
older it says to you "go climb it yourself."

The cat is fascinated by the noise it makes, the paper that comes out
of it, the print head moving, etc.  I haven't found a way to keep the
cat off, I just keep an eye on the printer when it is in use.
