My Lilo is 2yrs old and I know alot of people say not to buy Iams because
they test on animals and because of what they put in their food...but when
Lilo eats that, her coat shines and she's silky soft. Every other brand I've
tried made her coat look dull and dirty and courser in texture. Any
suggestions of a brand closest to Iams that I might try?? I'm in NY(USA).
Thanks

It's such a shame that Iams has a reputation for being "good" because
the ingredients are anything but. For the past few years I've been
buying a food that is not very well known, but has better ingredients
than any of the "famous" foods and is pretty much the same (higher)
price. It is this one:

I've lived with cats for nearly thirty years, and my current cats' coats
are the nicest I have ever seen or felt. They all have silky, shiny
gorgeous fur since they have been eating the "chicken soup" food. I
swear by this brand, and it is the only premium pet food I have ever
purchased where I could SEE the results.

Care to be more specific as to what you believe makes
Iams a *bad* cat food?

the ingredients- the 2nd-4th ingredients are Chicken By-Product Meal,
Corn Grits, and Corn Meal
Meat by-products and corn are horrible things to have in cat food,
especially when they are that close to the top.

I used to feed our cats Science Diet, and I think it had similar
ingredients. I have been using Iams Multi-Cat, and it shows
chicken by-product meal, chicken, corn grits, dried beet pulp,
powdered cellulose, etc. Been buying the Iams for convenience
at Walmart. I may just start shopping for food at Petsmart
again and look for a quality food.

My cat herd (five) seem to like the canned tuna from Trader Joe's.., so
did we decide which food was best..?

I show cats (so coat condition is very important to me) and I feed them
a mix of Nutro's Max Cat and Innova Evo.

I bought some Classic Gourmet.., Mmmmm good..!! Of course the cats hate
it.., so I guess it's back to 9 lives, and Friskies..!! Then again, little
Tina loves a nice gropher for the evening course..!! Seems to keep her slim
and trim.., just like deer meat for a human I guess..!!
