New born kitten breathes out of it's mouth

My cat just gave birth to 5 cuddly kittens. 4 of them are healthy and eat. My
little problem kitten won't drink from it's mother. It breathes through his
mouth instead of it's nose. I been hand feeding it since yesterday. But it is
still week and it doesn't show any progress. I am worried that when I go to
the vet that they will put it down.
It is so weak and helpless. I never saw it drink from it's mother. I tried
every thing so it would latch on but it doesn't.
I don't want to lose it. It is just 2 days old.

Try bottle feeding? Maybe this babe's gig was up ? Hope you find a
way.

I've been feeding it with a syringe since yesterday. It still gets weaker
each hour.

They wouldn't do that out of malice.  They would only do it as a last resort
to save it from pain if there is no hope.

Take it to the vet.  My untrained intuition says it may have some blockage
in its throat that keeps it from breathing or eating properly.  The vet can
advise you of the proper course.

Puritanism didn't keep the puritans from sinning, it just kept them from enjoying it.

It died a couple hours ago. I guess nature takes the week, but it still hurts
very much. If it would have survived the night I would have taken it to the
vet. It is weird, I just known it for 3 days and I miss it very much. Thanks

How are the others doing?
tinka_bell1982 - 26 May 2006 09:14 GMT
The others are doing fine. They grow so fast and got fat. They are a joy. I
just wished I could keep all of them. It will be hard to give them away. They
are so adorable. Thank you for your concern.

Sorry to hear about your poor kitty...
I guess it was just not meant to happen (yet)

I am so sorry you lost the baby kitten.  No matter how short a time we have a
little one, it's still very much a big loss.

There must have been a very serious physical problem, but it's still hard to
accept.

I would check with the vet.   Maybe a sinus condition?
Nasal blockege?

The thing i'd be concerned about is cats use their
sense of smell to identify food, other cats, etc.
I'd be concerned the cat would not eat it food
since it can't smell it.

BTW, how do you tell if a cat is breathing through the nose or
the mouth?  I can't tell on my cats.
tinka_bell1982 - 26 May 2006 09:17 GMT
That was easy. It's mouth was constantly open. If it closed it, it stoped
breathin for several seconds. It sounded horroable when it was breathing. It
did not breath regular like the others do. I guess it had a blockage in the
nose and in it's lunges.
