Couple cat questions

This is Philo's girlfriend, or in the case of Cocopuff,  her handmaiden.

Anyhooo we just have a few questions.  First, we know she's about 6-8wks
old.  When does one normally have a cat spayed.  All our previous cats were
older when we got them so it was never a problem.

Now, I know that I am a mere member of Cocopuff's staff but how do I get her
to stop going after electric cords.  Coco's a little determined hellion when
it comes to wires.  The other day she sneaked into the 2" space behind my
computer desk.  Too many wires that could hurt her.  I've now built several
fortresses around the desk but she's still trying to get back there.  I've
tried removing her from the room and distracting her, I've tried the water
squirt (not when she's close to the wires...that wouldn't be too bright on
my part) and it seems to get her to go away from them but a few minutes
later she's back there.  We've pretty well kitten proofed our home but it
seems that this cat feels she's exempt from any barriers.

This is like raising a two year old human child all over again, but I don't
want to insult Cocopuff by comparing her to a human.  She's way above
something like that. ;>)

Oh, and yesterday I left the house for most of the day and when I returned
she was still alive.  So, I guess it's okay to let her be alone now.

Many of the no-kill shelters spay at 8 weeks.  Personally, I wouldn't wait
beyoned 12 weeks.  To a degree, the younger they are the easier it is on
them.

Squirt bottles and distracting them with something else are the best you
can probably do.

I enclosed all my computer wires and cables so that our cats couldn't get
to most of them.

Make sure she has lots and lots of distracting toys.

Female cats at 5 1/2 months old.

Go to automotive store and get plastic tubing - it is used to put on wires
under the engine of your car.  It comes in different sizes for different
sized cords and is pre-split.  Cover all cords she can bite.  I had a kitten
that did this and she almost chewed right through our alarm clock cord the
first night we had her.

Some other things that happened to our kitten
- jumped into the toilet
- looked like she was going to jump into oven when I opened the oven door -
scary!!!
- when doing laundry, jumped into dryer when I wasn't looking

Just gotta watch kittens a lot; they're quite crazy and fearless which is why
they get themselves into so much trouble!  Oh, and if your's is anything like
mine was, she'll also bite your toes while you're trying to sleep.

To both responses.  The idea of wrapping the cords is good.  We have lots
and lots and lots of cords.  Cocopuff is an ankle nipper.  That one she's
learning to NOT do.  I looked on a chart and Cocopuff  is the equivalent of
a toddler.  I remember my daughter as a toddler and I think I'll just have
to treat Cocopuff like a toddler for awhile.

We realized just how old White Cat was when the kitten came into our
home/lives.  I still am totally in love with that kitten.  And we still miss
White Cat.  I think Cocopuff is his reincarnation.  I do know that she's
filled us both with a lot of laughs and happiness.  Just gotta watch her
constanly.
