He sits on my printer, desks, tvs, cabinets, everything and anything.
Gets hair all over it -- makes it dirty, etc. There's always clumps of
cat hair gathering in corners, dust, ugh, etc...

Anyway, how do I get him to stop climbing over everything? He keeps
making my printer all dirty, rubbing his dirty head on my monitor, etc.

I would like to add I got "Bitter Yuck" and sprayed it on my desk, he's
just sitting in it right now.

After having read several of your posts... No offense,  but I'm
starting to wonder why you didn't get a fish instead.  Geist has only
you to look to for love, acceptance, empathy.  Do you think he's
getting that?  The things you say about him... the way you refer to him
and obviously think of him... You seem to have nothing but disdain for
everything most of us here either love, or at the very least, accept as
part of life with our furry charges. Have you thought that maybe you
might do both of you a favor and give him to someone who will love him
all his life and will cherish him for what and who he is?  Make sure
they keep him inside for a couple of weeks if he is to be turned
outside though (and hopefully not!) .  Cats are very geographically
oriented and will try to flee to where they last felt secure, when they
are moved.  Please consider a new loving home for little Geist.  You
might both be a lot happier??

He knocked my contact lenses container off my bathroom cabinet yesterday
containing monthly-usage contacts I had opened the day previously. Geist
did this at 3:30am.

I think he does get love. He has lots of toys, treats, and I allow him
to sleep with me on my bed. (Which is a real pain because he attacks my
feet whenever they move).

With all that said, I can't give him up -- Of course he would forget
about me eventually but just being handed to someone else, he would have
no idea what is going on and never see me again. Plus, I wouldn't trust
it.

You probably can't.  You have to realize that he's a living, breathing,
animal who has behaviors natural to a cat.  This means climbing, rubbing,
grooming, licking, nipping, etc.  It also means finding his hair around,
litter knocked out of the litter pan, etc.

You really need to stop obsessing about what you don't like and enjoy the
companionship of your kitty.  If you can't manage to do that, you probably
need to find him a new home.

I've gotten use to white cat hair everywhere, and i wear alot of black
too..
two cats, long hairs, yeah, lots o hair everywhere. i except it, doesnt
mean i like it tho...
plus i joke about how my next cats are going to be Rexs, those hairless
Eygptian cats
invest in a swiffer, lint brushed/rollers, and a pound of paitence to
boot
OT the only thing i hate about my cats is when they choke up a
hairball, they actually will run off the hardwood floor to the nearest
carpet...
but i love my cats more than my $800 8'x11' oriental rug
which can easily be replaced, where a loving cat with personality can't

I thought that Rex cats were the ones with thick chinchilla like hair.  One
of the cats that once invaded my life had a coat like that but markings like
a Siamese.  Those cats are beautiful and their fur is soft as silk.  If Rex
cats are the hairless ones then what are the chinchilla furred ones called?
Teana Barry - 18 May 2006 09:04 GMT
They are - you mean the Sphynx cat

Why do you even bother to keep him the way you feel about him??

I have four and 2 of them loose more hair then I will ever have and it all seems to end up
on my clothes.  I have to keep a lint roller in every room.

Trying to sleep at night is another story what with one trying to take my pillow, one
sleeping between my legs and the others taking turns waking me up by washing my face.

Trying to use conputer is another thing.  Everytime they see me on here they want my
attention but get off and then it is like "Do not touch me!!  Leave me alone!!"

Sure I get tired of it at times but the funny thing is that if they are not there I end up
going to see where they are and if they are ok.  If anyhting happened to them I would get
another one.  I would be lost without at least one.  When we lost our first one I did not
think I would ever get over it.

I have a solution for when you are on the computer.
My Girl would always try to get up on me and meow constantly while I was on
the computer.
SOLUTION>>
I put a cat tree that has only a box at the top to lay in right beside my
chair.
Shes inches away from me, close enough to almost lean on me while I type.
I can actually pet her while surfing and she is completely happy with this
and sits beside me contently now without any anxiety at all!
She never climbs on the desk that is at the same height and touching the cat
tree and isnt jealous of my time with the computer now. It's a wonderful
arrangement. :)
Shes my baby, and owns me outright..LOL

That sounds like a great solution.  Three of our five want to lay on either
the desktop or the keyboard, and short of rejecting them, I hadn't thought of
a solution.

Why is your cat so dirty? Why in the world is his head dirty? That is
very odd.

As for clumps of hair, it helps to brush them -- especially now that
they are shedding winter coats. You can get a lot of hair off of a cat
in just a few minutes of combing.

You (and I emphasize YOU) need to cat-proof your house to protect what
you need to protect from your cat. It's similar to child-proofing, only
this kid can jump up.

I think you need some bonding sessions with your cat. I don't know how
to suggest you go about it, but you seem to  regard him as an "it" that
is inconveniencing your life. That's how your post reads, anyway.

What do you like about your cat? That's a good place to start.

Rhonda

Hi, Zeitgeist - it sounds as though you have a great relationship with your
cat. I agree with Rhonda that grooming will help a lot. Climbing is natural
as is curiousity. How about a floor to ceiling cat centre? The foot-bashing
is displaced hunting behaviour rather than aggression. Predatory play will
help with that, plus the stimulus of outdoors.

Here are some ideas for safe access to the great outdoors:

Here are some ideas for the home/play:

I'd particularly recommend the puzzle feeders, my cat loves them.

You are simply going to have to cat proof what you can and put up with the
rest.

I currently have 5 cats and I have found museum putty to be invaluable. I'm
serious - this stuff is a MUST-HAVE for people with cats and/or small kids.

You will have to use cabinets with doors that can be closed and otherwise
adjust your decor to accomodate for the catties. Comb him regularly to
remove dead hair and keep things you value behind cabinet doors safe and
secure and don't sweat the small stuff.

Btw, why is your cat's head dirty? That's a new one to me.

If there's something you really don't want him on such as your printer, you
can put these on a piece of cardboard, then put the cardboard on your printer.
When his paws touch the sticky stuff, he won't like it and may quit jumping
on it:

http://www.stickypaws.com/stickypawscom/productsSPF.cfm

But don't put it on everything; let there be some things he can jump on such
as couches, cabinets, etc.  You don't want to make it so that he can't jump
on anyhing at all; cat's need to jump up, it's a natural tendancy for them.
You could also get him some large posts and other climbing apparatus.
