My kitten sheds *everywhere*. My new black sheets are covered with fur.
I've switched his food from the generic to the Purina Kitten-Chow. Any
ideas how to get this guy to stop shedding?
He doesn't just shed "here or there" but EVERYWHERE. I have to hide my
clothes and everything. Right now I just got home and he's jumping on
the desk and slamming his head into mine for some reason. Hair is now
all over my shirt...

I need help. He is a lynx-pont Siamese.

If you own pets, you have to get used to having hair everywhere.  Just use
the lintbrush a lot and brush or comb your cat as much as he will tolerate.

Giving you head-butts is a major sign of affection; he missed you and is glad
you're home.

No, you don't understand. I comb him daily but this amount of shedding
is abnormal I think. Is there a reduce shedding food or something? He
never shedded like this when I first got him. It's seriously crazy, I'm
going to have to throw out the new comforter and sheets I bought.

Kitten how old is he Zeitgest?

Head butts are a sign of affection in cats  their way of saying  HOWDY!

Where are in the world Zeitgest .  If it started to get warmer near you or
started to get colder  he could be getting his winter or summer coat.
Rumble sheds like crazy before spring which is approaching in Florida  fur
gets on everything  He gets brushed 3 extra times a day now till his coat is
done which will be about another month.

the cat is not got patches of fur missing does he? or licking only in a
certain spot

Some shed more once Spring comes.  If you just recently switched from the
generic food, it may take awhile for the better quality food to help his coat.
If the fur is falling out in clumps you may have to give your vet a call.

Get yourself a Dirt Devil (or any brand) hand vacuum; they are great for
vacuuming up your bed, couch, etc.

It's natural for cats to shed, moreso at the end of winter.  Combing and
brushing will help, but there will still be shedding.  You have changed his
food, but you could still improve it.  Purina is a step above generic, but
several steps up might also improve his coat.  Try a brand like Nutro-Max, or
other premium food.  You might also try a premium canned food that has a
higher fat content.  Cats require far more fat than humans.

Head butting is a sign of affection.  Enjoy it! :-)

Hi Wayne,
Where can I get those brands? I just go to the local Kroger and I don't
believe they carry them, are they dry?

One time, Purina had a can of "wet" in their packaging so I gave it to
him. BIG MISTAKE. It ended up all over my floor and took me like 10
minutes to clean it up, Geist is such a slob.

I shop at Petsmart.  They have an amazing variety of foods, many of which
are premium top quality.  There are other brands as good as Nutro-Max, so
you might want to ask someone there to advise you.  Nutro-Max is available
in both dry and canned varieties.  Sounds like Geist needs to learn some
"table manners" :-)

Check Petsmart's website to find a store in your area.  As far as I know,
they are all over the US, but I don't know where you live.

Hi. I was there earlier, there certainly are a lot. I did notice Purina
One that they don't sell at the grocery store. I bought that because it
was a little cheaper than Nutro-Max & Science Diet. If this doesn't
work, I'm going to try the Nutro-Max next. I hear Science Diet is a
rip-off (from searching Google Groups) and is just peddled by the vet
offices.

I don't know about Science Diet being a rip-off, but I do know my cats
don't like it.

Yes, Purina One is a much better food than what you were feeding Geist
before.  He will probably like it; my cats did.  One of my cats, Peanut,
still had a digestive problem, however, so I changed to Nutro-Max.  He's
fine now.

FWIW, the Arizona Animal Welfare League (AAWL), the largest and oldest "no-
kill" shelter in Arizona, feeds the cats at the shelter Nutro-Max dry food
and Fancy Feast canned food.

Even with better food, there will still be shedding, particularly heavier
at change of seasons.  However, the shedding is much less with this better
food.  One other suggestion is to add about a teaspoon of corn oil over the
food several times a week.
