Whitecat

He was 18 years old and had been loosing a lot of weight...
but still seemed in pretty good shape until yesterday.
He got quite ill and we took him right to the vet.

She thought it best to observe him overnight and run some tests.

Basically, his whole system was just shutting down...so we had to let him go
today.

He was one hell of a good companion.

My only regret is that it's too bad that so many Doctors who treat people...
don't seem to care as much about their patients...

Thank you!

He was really a good friend.
A few years back my girlfriend went through a lengthy period of trauma.

Whenever I had to leave the hosue for work...
I knew everything would be OK becasue Whitecat was *always* there right by
her side...

My girlfriend eventually healed...and I know Whitecat heled a lot!

Indeed,..and that speaks of the special relationship we have with them and
to an extent, all animals.
People betray, fib and treat us less,..pets are always loyal,
unconditionally,....except for food :-)

hope the loss is not too painful

Well the loss was quite sad...and we will always think of him...
but as a 56 year old ex-army guy... I'm not embarrassed to admit that
the only other time I've had to cry due to a death...was for another cat !@

I think we become emotional because they dont know whats happening, and we
cant just scoop them up and take them home like other visits.
Hope you have some photos for that time you are able to look at them.

I'm so sorry, but it helps to know your cat was loved and cared-for for so
long.

This is a poem that I think is a beautiful tribute at a time like this (but
beware...you will cry again).

MaryL

Lend Me A Kitten

I will lend to you for a while
a kitten, God said.
For you to love while he lives,
and mourn when he's dead.

Maybe for twelve or fourteen years,
or maybe two or three.
But will you, 'till I call him back,
take care of him for me?

He'll bring his charms to gladden you
and should his stay be brief,
you'll always have his memories
as solace for your grief.

I cannot promise he will stay,
since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught below
I want this kitten to learn.

I've looked the whole world over
in search of teachers true,
And from the folk that crowds life's land
I have chosen you.

Now will you give him all your love,
nor think the labor vain?
Nor hate me when I come to take
my kitten home again?

And my heart replied,
"My Lord, Thy Will Be Done."
For all the joys this kitten brings,
the risk of grief I'll run.

We'll shelter him with tenderness,
we'll love him while we may.
And for the happiness that we've known,
forever grateful stay.

But should you call him back
much sooner than we planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
and try to understand.

If by our love we've managed
your wishes to achieve,
in memory of his sweet sweet love,
please help us while we grieve.

When our cherished kitten
departs this world of strife,
Please send yet another needing soul
for us to love all his life.

I read it and enjoyed it (although "enjoy" isn't really the word for
something like this).  The allegory involving WhiteCat and the plate is very
moving.

I'm sorry to hear about Whitecat, but I'm glad the two of you found
each other and built such a special relationship.

Thank you!

Over a period of years...he adopted me (and my girlfriend)

He was originally the neighbor's cat!

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. My friend's cat's name is
whitecat.... Maddie... is that you? From Harleysville, PA?

No

Whitecat's  name was originally Simon when he belonged to the neighbor's.

When he came over I just referrred to him as that whitcat.

Over the years he came over more and more often until finally he fully
'adopted' us...
but I just called him "Whitecat"

The neighbors later told me his name was Simon...
but what the heck do they know :)

I'm so sorry. :'(

At least he led a happy and long life. I think the bond between a human
and an animal is even more special than that of humans because we are
not even the same species, yet we seems to understand each other so
well and are able to live in harmony together simply because we enjoy
each others presence.

I hope you get to feeling better soon. It will take some time to get
used to him being gone, but maybe another pet will wonder into your
life like Whitecat did and be special in it's own unique way. Who knows
what the tide will bring.

By the way I really like the name you chose for Whitecat. It's simple,
yet clever. And that picture is just adorable! :)

I appreciate your comments!

I'm sure , when the time is right we will get another cat.

I've always had cats ever since I've been 16 years old...
and that's a very long time !!!

Thank you so much for loving Whitecat.   It is very special when we can
bond outside our own species... and I feel bad for people who will
never know that kind of love.   I know that when loss comes, it can be
devastating... my world stopped when I lost my 19 year old little
friend.  I promised her I would honor her by doing service to help
kitties and doggies in need, so now I volunteer lots of time and skills
for a shelter. Whitecat will always be a part of your life and you his.
Another furry one will need you too someday, and you may feel Whitecat
giving you a little nudge...  hugs from Catgirl

Thank you for the link w/Whitecat's picture; I'm glad I saw him.
I, too, send you sincere condolences for losing him. Looks like
he went to the Rainbow Bridge because he was old, but he sure
sounds like he had a happy life and was loved by you.

Well during his last few months, that guy was given TONS of extra love
and attention and he was already pretty spoiled :)

Out of his 18 years of life...he only had a few bad hours

A better epitaph has never been written.

Godspeed, Whitecat!

Thank you.
It will be impossible to ever forget him.
I still plan to give out pictures of him wearing those bunny ears
for the rest of my life.
I've probably given out 1000 of them already!
