It could well be locked in somewhere, if not, follow momma outside, she
might find her baby.

I would certainly make a through search of the house, right away. This
would include things that kids play with that could conceivably hold a
kitten. A past neighbor had a kitten go missing. Turned up some months
later in their kids lunch box, along with a pair of expensive headsets....
yuk. As it turned out these whee the kids most favorite things and he lost
them all at one stroke :(
