How cute to discover her all nice and tucked in a circle in MY bed resting
against the pillow. Now every night we have to go thru this "battle of wills".
Believe me she puts up a fight! And before you say why don't you just share
the bed (or like my mother says "I can sleep in the hall!" LOL - she wants to
stay in the spot she's in with as about as close to the middle as you can
imagine!
arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Stretcing out and putting my feet under our cat works for me.
She eventually moves if she doesn't like me tossing and turning
underneath her.

That works for me as well. Most nights (at least in cold weather) I
have up to four lined up along my legs and a couple around my head -
maybe one or two under the covers. When I get up, the ones I had to
move to get out of bed move to the warm place I left. I just force my
way back under them and they eventually move back to along side. If I
pull my feet up, one will take over the space - that one may actually
be pushed off the end of the bed when I straighten out again
(generally not particularly awake).

Ted, you old softie. I bet you've never pushed a cat off the bed in your life.
You're just like my DH.

Push, pull, and stimulate jumps - yes.
It's hard to tell whether a cat leaving the bed did so because it had
been stimulated to jump rather than be pushed off or whether it really
was pushed off. When I start moving around, they start abandoning the
bed - if one is too slow, it may get pushed off. Once last night I
woke up and couldn't move because the covers where tightly anchored
down by a number of cats along my legs. I started thrashing and
little by little got them to move enough for me to get my legs out -
then they all (except one) left the bed, only to come back later.
A couple of them refuse to get off the bed when I take the comforter
off to change the sheets - that cat gets pulled off (slowly) with the
comforter and gets a ride to the floor with the falling comforter.

First my two little daughters each grabbed their dwarf rabbits in the
mornings and cuddled into my bed with them - much to the disgust of hubby
... When we got our dog 7 years ago it was clear that it would *not* sleep
in my bed, well not for long, she found her way; then cat one (who's now at
the RB) moved into the bed too, cat two, cat three, and the latest is my
teenage daughter who thinks it's so comfy with all the pets around, good
that the bed is big enough. LOL! (Btw hubby has moved out not *just* because
of the pets though.)

LOL, that's a lot of cats, you must save on your heating bills!

It's probably the other way around: the programmable thermostat cuts
the heat back shortly before bedtime, so the temperature is already
dropping when I go to bed - the cats, being cats, seek the warmest
place, and that is as close as possible to me, even under the covers.

Sounds like a typical cat! Do you at least have another human in the
bed to help with keeping the cats warm?

Unfortunately, no. I think it unlikely that I ever will again: I have
come to the conclusion that the only women who are attracted to me and
to whom I am attracted in turn are psychiatric basket cases. I don't
need another round of that. I've changed, so that may no longer be
true, but I am still terrified that it might be: every time I start
getting close to a woman, I have a flashback to a specific Sunday
evening in 1982, and I run away.

Gosh, seems like it would be easy to find a nice woman who likes cats!
Of course, that might double your cat population right there...

The nearest thing to a current interest has two cats and two dogs -
the cats would hardly be noticed, but it would double the dogs. Well
not quite: hers are small lap dogs and mine are large hunting dogs
(about 60 pounds each). Maybe it would be about the same fraction.

Sounds like you'll need a bigger bed! ;-D

In case you haven't figured out by now, your cat will always win this battle of
will. Cats are stubborn!
May be you should just buy a larger bed?

Oh you are soooo lucky...
My cat loves taking over my pillow and has even gone so far
as to somehow lay over my face and block my breathing ability.
Here's a reply to the person who suggested buying a bigger
bed.... I have and it still does not work. Cats like warmth
and it does not matter if you have loads of room on your bed,
they will still sleep alongside you or in may case - take over
your pillow.
