Jees.
Well of the two, I'd say the ferret is the more killey - but I can't see it
having a go, quite honestly.
Don't prey items have to trigger the pounce/kill reflex before the predator
can attack them ?
I mean, a cat - a cat's the last creature that would possess prey traits and
behaviour.
Don't forget that a cat is extremely capable of defending itself - with
possible lethal consequences for anything much smaller than it.
My (admittedly uninformed, nay downright ignorant) hunch is that they'd
co-exist in a harmony of mutual tolerance, nay respect.
I think a worst-case scenario would be a short spat with a few puncture
wounds.
But if I had to be one or the other of them, I plump for ferret (sp ?).
Hehe.

Hubby had a ferret and a kitten. They played together constantly. They are
buddies.

Only if the cat tries to move in to the ferret's cage :-)

"Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one
elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and
splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then
providence moves too. A whole stream of events issues from the decision,

material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his
way."

The only thing I have ever heard of a ferret killing is a snake. I personally
had several ferrets & several cats & never had a problem out of them over
fighting. If anything, wanted to play if they grew up together

Ferrets can kill rabbits or other rodent-type critters as well. The chances
of one killing a cat, which really isn't likely to run away in terror of the
fuzzy little thing when it can smack it with a paw and warn it first, is
pretty slim. Still, if this is your first ferret, check with your local
humane society or spca, or even google "ferret," and see what advice you can
find about introducing a new critter into a house with existing pets.

If the ferret grows up with the cat then they should co-exist
peacefully. Note that a full grown cat will *easily* kill a baby ferret
and a small ferret may trigger a cats pounce reflex - bye bye ferret.
Although the cat won't go for a grown ferret in a straight punch up the
ferret will lose big time. Felines skeletal muscle is at least twice as
strong as any other mammalian muscle - there is a lot of strength in the
average housecat and when push comes to shove the cat will usually win
against anything the same size.
Ferrets like other carnivores are smart and go for things significantly
smaller then them - cats don't really fit the bill.

In "Get Fuzzy" Bucky Kat gets beat up by a chicken, let alone dueling
a ferret. I'm wild about the strip, they've deleted most of the good
ones in our local paper, but recently got "Get Fuzzy". I always save
it till last.
