In another thread, somebody referred to a "Love Bite".
Is this a recognized phenomenon with cats?

I described the love bite in cats as when men come up to one another and
punch each other in the arm and say what's up
My furballs will give me a playful bite when I am ignoring them as to say
bad slave I am here worship me

I get "love bites" by 2 of my 3. It's the softest little bite on my arm
along with a couple little licks after that. It's very affectionate-like and
not at all like a real bite. Perhaps it's a form of "grooming" us.

I say of reminding us that they are the masters and we are the slaves :-)

My oldest cat, Shadow, does love bites frequently, either when he's
exceptionally happy or when he wants my attention if I'm doing something
else. Some cats can learn how much pressure to use to get attention without
actually harming whoever it is that they are biting.

Two of my kitties do this.. one likes to grab the meaty part of my hand when
he gets loved up... and just hangs on there a bit.. hee hee... The other one
who does this, when I hold him and love him up, grabs any part of my arm he
can and bites down, almost breaking the skin but stopping short... in both
cases, I guess because I "know" these guys so well, its so obvious that
this is out of some kind of affection, or reaction to received affection,
more like a loving exchange... not aggression/anger/defense. Years ago, I
had a kitty friend who, when I layed on my tummy, would out of the blue walk
right up to me and clamp down on my nose!! "Oh, no... here comes Fluffly!!"
But instead of fleeing, I just stayed there and let him express himself to
me, it was harmless enough, but I could not move until he let go! LOL
Again, stopping short of breaking skin, and the affectionate intent was
unmistakeable.
