What's his problem?

Zeitgeist - 22 Feb 2006 12:01 GMT My cat, born in June (and I've had him since late August), always attacks me. I'll be sitting on my desk and he'll come and lie down on it and then suddenly just jump on my wrist and attack me. It hurts and I end up flinging him across the room. He always just randomly attacks me, how can I get him to stop?
~*Connie*~ - 22 Feb 2006 12:57 GMT He's bored. Get him some toys you can play with him with, and set aside some specific time to play with him. You could get him a playmate. Two cats are not twice the work as one, and it prevents a lot of boredom problems.
Also, make sure he's neutered.

He's not abused. It irritates me when I'm typing on my computer with him lying next to me and then he suddenly just attacks my hand. He deserves whatever he gets.

Beat him to death or give him antifreeze then. Problem solved. Why ask for help if you really don't give a sh.t!

Has flinging him across the room been effective? No? Well, why do you keep doing it then? I hope to god you never have children.

Another thought... if this all happens too fast for you to grab the pebble can or water squirter, a really loud and quick "PSSST!!! PSSST!!! PSSST!!!" also works very very well..!

My experience is that our cat totally ignores people 99% of the time - but when somebody/something hisses it *really* gets it's attention. Even pressing the valve on a bicycle tire...

Your cat is probably associating your hand movements with play, and the sound of your keyboard "plays" into the whole thing, too. Keep a tin can with small rocks or the like nearby, to grab and shake loudly when he does that. Or, keep a water squirter nearby, and give him a squirt with water... NOT a steady stream onto the face, you can damage his eyes, and you don't want to get water in his ears. But... the old pebbles in the can or water squirt are excellent ways to stop unwanted kitty actions... might take a few times, might take only once... and he won't associate you personally with any kind of negative physical contact or negative voice communication (yelling), thus preserving a relationship of love and trust. Try this and let us know how its working.

LOL Then again, there are always the humans who just take pride in being mean spirited. I'm glad I'm not like you, Mr. Wesley. No need to reply that you're glad you're not like me.

Yeppers, that's her!!! Strangely though, I turned out looking more like Delores Claiborne. Must be my Tomdad's fault. Thanks, Dad! LOL
