My cat,"Jack",has a cough,like he is has a hairball that won't come up.  I
got that malt stuff and started to give it to him.  How long does it
take(he is about 25lbs and 5 1/2 yrs old)?

You're supposed to give it to them daily until symptoms disappear (no food
for 2 hours before the dosage and 2 hours after), then once or twice a week
after that.  Is he a Maine Coone?  25 lbs is extremely large.

Even if Jack is a Coon, 25lbs is overweight for a cat.  It might not be a
hairball, but a side effect of the obesity.  I would recommend a vet visit
to make sure it isn't heart failure or asthma.

Here is a picture of my Tiger.  He weighs 24 pounds.  I don't think he
loods obese.

Try to copy the link to your browser's address bar instead of just clicking
the link. It should work that way.

He looks like he has a lot of Maine Coon in him - but he definitely looks
overweight too.

Yeah, keep on the hairball stuff for 24-48 hours, then get him to the
vet if he's still doing it.  Regardless of weight, if the symptom
continues that long, he should be seen.

When Ike (RB) had a persistent cough it turned out to be asthma.  He
would get a prednisone shot which would "cure" it for about four months.
Then it would come back.
