Outlook for cat with broken foot

My cat broke all four long bones in his foot about 1 month ago. The
fracture occurred about halfway between the heel and the claws. The
injury did not break the skin, but the foot was broken to the point of
hanging.

Our vet put him in a cast and we kept him inside, in a room where he
was unable to jump, to help the bones to heal.

The xray after one month showed no bone growth, no healing. The vet
thought this was unusual, and recasted the leg, and advised to wait and
see a while longer.

Finally, the question - what experiences have other had with cats with
broken feet - have they healed successfully, or have you had to take
some other... course to treat the broken foot?

Not foot as such but my "Q" got run over when he was about 2 and shattered
his pelvis on the one side. Vet said there was no point in trying to operate
as the bits were too small so to put him in a room like yours & see if he
healed. I hand fed him for 6 weeks before he was able to stand an move
around a bit and after 10 weeks he was 'released'. He is now 15 (and totally
bonded to me in that he follows me down to the shops in my village like a
dog, waits outside and walks back home with me) and his one back leg sticks
out slightly at an angle but other than that, and a bit of pain in cold
weather he is fine. It could be that for those first 6 weeks he hardly moved
while your cat I assume has been moving around the room and also moving the
leg around a bit........

Hopefully the bones will eventually heal...

even if the very worst thing should happen and your cat has to loose the
paw...
they can learn to adjust.
there was a 3 legged cat in my neighborhood for many years...
running around with a barely noticable limp...
