my cat is nursing but there are not enough nipples.
any suggestions for the runt?

KMR, and a needless syringe you can get at any pharmacy.  You can get
bottles, but I have not had luck getting kittens to nurse on it.  They might
nurse out of the syringe, but if not, just put a drop or two in its mouth at
a time.

Either that or isolate mom and the kit for a while every few hours.

How big is the litter?

Cats normally have 8 nipples (4 on each side).

I suggest bottle feeding for the runt if you want him/her to live.

What do you mean "if you want him/her to live" - do you think they would be
posting here if they wanted the wee thing dead?

Badass.

You may not want to believe this, but there *are* some people who don't want
to "interfere with nature".  *That* is why I put what I did.  That is also
why some (ignorant) people do not spay/neuter their pet(s).

You're right.  Some people say "well if the mother isn't taking care of the
kitten then I guess it isn' t meant to be".  Which of course is ridiculous.
If we have the means of helping them we should!  Met people too who don't
think it's "natural" to spay their cat.  These people should spend a day at a
shelter and see if it's "natural" when they have to put down all those
unwanted pets.

You need a nipple splitter to hook to one nipple and make it into 2.

Hold the runt up to the mom and help it nurse. I kept the other cats
away from ours while he nursed, as often as I could.

Talk to a vet about it if you are concerned. Maybe you should be
syringe-feeding him KMR too, if he really is not getting enough to eat.
