My cat has just been diagnosed with an overactive Thyroid. Has any one
been through this? Does any one have any advice? I'm concerned about my
cat .He seemed to be in some distess yesterday panting and breathing
very fast so I took him to the vets. He also poohed on the floor so I
thought he had a fit.He is 13 and a bit over weight. I'm also concerned
about vet bills. How much will it be for the operation when he's well
enough.

There are three treatments.
1. Radioactive iodine. Kitty has to stay in isolation at a treatment center
for about 5 days. Cost $1000+. Very high success rate.
2. Surgery. May have to be redone and may not work.
3. Daily drugs such trapazole. Need periodic bloodwork to see if dose is
correct.
Hyperthyroidism may mask CRF so some vets start with drugs to and then check
for CRF.
I treated my Indigo with the radioactive iodine when he was about 12. It
was successful.

Hi May I put in my two cents?
I have a thyroid problem that resulted in a multi nodular and massive
goiter. Some of the things that I have learned is that a malfunctioning
thyroid;comes in two types, affects other glands and is very complex. It
can be also dangerous, so get competent treatment for you furball ASAP.
Cheers
