Question cat sh.tting in house

Bry - 17 Dec 2005 19:54 GMT
Ok this question is about my mom's cat.  Cat is 18
years old and overweight.

Cat seems to be in health for her age except the
fact last month or so she is sh.tting in house.
Only sh.t, not piss, sorry for my language.

I tell my mom to bring cat to vet but there dirt
poor and don't think the vet can do anything, and
she just said she's getting old.  Yes, mom is in
complete denial there is something medically wrong
with cat.

Cat's been on medication last few year for her
thyroid.  She would have died without the
medicine, saved her life.

Quite honestly i'm surprised cat lived this long,
and cat is housecat afraid of outdoors.  .

I know your not vets any input would be cool.
It's not my cat i'm not terribly heartbroken,
maybe a little, never really was a lapcat kind of
kept her distance from people.  But anyway,
anything i can pass on to my mom would be kinda cool
Thanks.

unless something changed she hasn't sh.t in litter
box since.  She pees in litter box, and i think
she's eating drinking normal.  I gotta check on that.

I think you answered your own question Bry. So your mom is dirt poor, there
are shelters that will see thr cat. Just do a search for the one closest to
you or her.

there are far more polite words than the ones you chose to use. Bodily
functions are not all that attractive, true, but using gutter language
in a public forum is uncalled-for.
If you love your animals, you put up with quite a lot.  I have two
little dogs I adopted when they were 5 years old and never housebroken.
Where they choose for relieving themselves is a hit-or-miss thing, but I
just clean it up and get on with things.  This might be the case with
your mother's cat.
In future, please be polite enough to choose better language.

But I dare say that dogs *can* be trained to relieve themselves outside.

you have to be kidding me.  Let me rephrase cat
defecating in house.  No thanks i don't need your
lessons on internet etiquette.  I was being honest
and straightforward.  Cat can wither and die for
all i care it's not even my cat.  It's my folks i
was just trying to help them, i don't like the cat
anyway.  I don't like you either.  Goodday.

although of course i want the cat to be ok.  Cat
is old her time is near.  Cat was more then likely
abused before we got her and she isn't a lapcat
i'll put it like that, but still a member of the
family.

Don't worry about it.  Nancy's reply was much more disgusting than the word
"sh.t."  You were asking for help with a cat -- she chastised you rather
than help the cat.  There's a word for what Nancy is -- I think it's BITCH.

Ya know, this is almost -exactly- how the RCC bunch got their little pink
monkeyasses slagged and handed back to them on a platter.

Yeah... words like sh.t and PISS is really offensive. </sarcasm>

But to the cat question... Cats starts to do that sort of thing when
they are upset. When they move to a new place and aren't comfortable,
or aren't allowed out when they want to, don't like the kitty
litter.... but if the cat is 18 years old... I'd say it's just old.
Have your mom put her down. It's the most humane thing to do.

But then... the cat could be sick. Does it smell bad? That is usually
the first sign. (They smell because they don't wash themselves, and the
don't wash themselves because they can't sense it, and if they can't
sense it because they are sick.... )

Because it's old? I sure hope that was just a poor joke. If it wasn't then
you have no business being around cats. Old age is NOT a good reason to
have a cat put down.

> But then... the cat could be sick. Does it smell bad? That is usually

If there have no changes to the cat's environment, if there are no new
sources of stress, and if the easy fixes like scooping the litter more
often don't help, then take the cat to the vet for a checkup. If you
can't afford a vet visit, call some of the local cat rescue groups and see
if they can help.

Put a cat down because it's old? Sheesh.
Mrs Beata - 03 Jan 2006 11:48 GMT
I know it sounds harsh but animals work differently than we do. When
they start to get old and "done" they stop eating, cleaning themselves
etc. They decide more of when they are to die. And death isn't so bad.
Living when they don't want to, that is worse.

no she still bathes herself and eats and drinks.
She don't hold canned food down anymore so we
don't feed her that.  She's weakly but appears to
not be suffering.  She gets worse she'll more then
likely be put down.

not sure if it's korean, chinese, mongolian, hong

An old cat slowing down is meaning one thing, she is preparing to
leave. And once she is prepared she won't suffer. Canned food ins't
good for them, they should have the pedigree dry stuff. But keep giving
her love, pet her and when she goes off... put her down. 18 years is a
real long time for a cat.

Dr.Carla,DVM - 29 Dec 2005 05:05 GMT
1st make sure the kitty litter is cleaned often.  One of my cats will
defecate outside the box when I haven't cleaned it often enough.
2nd, call around to shelters and to clinics and find out how cheap they are.
Tell them your mom is low on cash. You may get a referral or be advised of
payment plans available.  I worked at one clinic that even had a fund for
people who were unable to pay (you may have to show proof, like last year's
tax return).  Money was donated by clients.
Good luck.
