I've got two new kittens with six claws on the front paws.  Does anybody
want them?  The first four cats hate them.  Send questions/comments to

Adult cats hate kittens... they're very annoying... has nothing to do
with them being polydactyls.

Yes, our 2 1/2 year old Micky from the shelter hated the kittens that were
born here last April. First thing was that he hid under the bed. And when
they started walking around he either hissed at them or went outside. Now
that they're 8 mths old the situation is as follows: he has an occasional
friendly fight with Elia, seems to be in love with Tiffy and shares food and
cat tree with them. Usually the three of them are not far from each other...

But: WHY are polydactyl cats called Hemingway cats??
(Don't think H. had 6 toes - or did he?
One famous female film star has it, but forgot who.)

Hemingway was fond of cats and kept a large clowder which is still
preserved as a breeding colony.  A high percentage of his cats were -
and their descendants are - polydactyl (currently about half).
Hemingway was the most famous person associated with a large number of
them. <http://www.hemingwayhome.com/HTML/our_cats.htm>
