I caught our stray Fatso in the act the other night. I was trying to get him
inside, but he kept going under a " Book-leaf pine-tree (about 8 foot tall
with thick growth). I then heard a bird flapping off. Guess birdies need a
taller tree.

It's so sad that such a beautiful bird had to die. Is is safe to assume
that it was your cat that did the killing? If so, shame on you for
allowing your cat to harm such a beautiful creature.

Birds die by the millions every day of predation. One killed by a
housecat is no big deal (although it is a beautiful bird). Cats will
do what cats will do. Live with it.

But who do you think the predators are? In Australia cats are a MAJOR
killer of threatened and endangered native wildlife - birds, reptiles
and small mammals - and it is considered a very big deal indeed. To the
point that some areas have nighttime curfews for cats to minimise the
impact on nocturnal wildlife.
