My daugher got a new kitten a few weeks ago,
and the litterbox in hall bathroom is now getting
too small.

Have to get a larger litterbox, and was wondering
where most of you put yours.

We don't allow the kitten outdoors at this point in
time as she has to be neutered in a few weeks, and
is too small to defend herself against the adult cats
roaming around this neighborhood.

Cheers,

We've always put ours in the laundry room under the sink in there.   A
friend of mine doesn't have a laundry room so she has it in a room where she
has her computer and stereo and has it in the corner and bought a decorative
screen to put around it (from drsfostersmith.com)

If it is by the washer / dryer and they are noisy some cats do not like the noise!!

We have two boxes.  One in the spare room that is our computer and storage
type room and one in the laundry room.

I don't think it matters too much to the cats where they are as long as they
know where the box is.

Neither of our boxes are really big.  12X15 inches and with covers.

We had the covered litterboxes as well but did away with the covers as
they trap the odor in and our oldest cat refused to use them.  We read
somewhere that it is better to let the air flow over the boxes helping
the odor to disappear

I have two litter boxes in a hall bathroom (powder room). There's a pedistal
sink with a box on either side. Matilda, when not "going" outside, poops in
one and pees in the other.

I put my cat's box in the bathtub.  This way, there is less scatter to
clean and I don't have to worry about her number one getting all over
the floor.  I also use the cat litter which resembles sand, so if some
of it winds up in the bathtub it will easily go down the drain when I
remove the box from the tub and turn the shower on.

As long as the cat / kitten can make it in and out of the tub by itself !!

sure hope you don't have a septic system!  yow!

Actually I was wondering about the effect of clumping litter on a septic
system... any clues ?

Straight clay of course means you're just pumping gravel into your
system; that's why most litters say "don't flush".
The Screaming Banshee - 15 Nov 2005 23:46 GMT
We just had to have a new septic tank put in and a new field dug out.  Our
septic person said it was because we were flushing both clumping and regular
litter.  No way will be do that again, its a very very expensive mistake.
You might not find a problem for several years.

A female cat is not neutered.  She is spayed.

Right, spayed. What was I thinking?  ;^)
