is there anyway to determine a cats age? my wife and i recently took in
a stray male whom we named eddy. not that it matters, i am curious about
his age. he is rather large, and has happily put on some weight since we
took him. he also seems to bow down, that is gets out of the way of the
neighbors male cat and that to me is a sign of submissivness or respect
of an older cat( the neighbors)
many thanks, cj

once a cat hits adulthood, it is very hard to tell. If he is not neutered,
a good look at his teeth will give you SOME sort of gauge for his age, but
not accurately. If he is neutered, then someone took care of him, and it
will be even less accurate (well if they took care of his teeth too)
A vet can guestimate his age

An experienced vet can guess by looking at the teeth and the way a cat walks
(stiff etc.). How about taking the cat for a general check up, worming etc.
and asking the vet to have a look at him?
If he's large then he's grown up and at least 1 1/2 or 2.
