I've had a cat for about a month now and I really don't want him on the
fridge because he might fall behind it.
How do I keep him off? He's a two year old and neutered and besides that
he's really cool!
Thanks!

Would it not be easier to either push the fridge closer to the wall or
block off the gap ?

Easier, perhaps, but not very smart: that gap is required for air
circulation around the condenser - close it off and if the fridge
doesn't burn out or fail to cool, it will cost more to run. There are
exceptions: some use a fan to discharge under the box - these can be
completely enclosed excspt at the bottom.

Yes I was aware that the condenser needed air circulation, but something
like chicken wire or suchlike would do the job. Without knowing the
layout it is tricky to say what would be easier.

You could try covering the top of the fridge with something sticky such
as contact wrong-side up. Cats hate treading on it and once he has the
message you can take it off and he probably still won't go up there.
I wouldn't worry too much about him falling though. Unless he has some
physical problem cats are pretty good at climbing etc.
All the best with him.

I agree with Kate. My cat is very acrobatic and doesn't ever fall. She's
every where in my apartment. She gets on top of my fridge and then on top
of my cabinets. She's been doing it for over a year. You're smart to be
concerned for your new baby's safety, but that's one thing you can probably
cross off your list of worries.

at two years of age, your kitty isn't going to fall off the fridge unless he
is ill (but if he's ill chances are he isn't going to go up there) or you
startle him. I have one I can't keep off it, and the way he gets there is
to jump on the counter. He was subtle about it, but then when he realized
we were going to let him do that, he jumped up on the counters more, and now
they all are. *ugh*
If you seriously don't want him up there (and don't think you'll ever
completely get him not to do it) simply remove him and say no. No hitting,
no hysterics, just simply remove him and put him on the ground. He'll
eventually get it that he can't do it when your around.

To keep him off the fridge just pile stuff up there so he can see he
hasn't got a landing pad.
Or... glue or doubletape some stuff to the back few inches so he doesn't
slip off if he falls asleep.
