RedHedd - 16 Feb 2004 01:08 GMT This sicko has posted this item for bid on eBay. Many of us on the PetTalk message boards have reported this idiot but the "item" is still open for bidding! Please help report this idiot.
Yes this is real. The owner of this lovely calico has no clue. I am so angry and upset at this...

Please do not view this if you are prone to feeling ill at animal cruelty
If you want to help "push" eBay along on handling this as they should here is their phone number. Ebay: 1-800-322-9266
Their phone hours are M-F 7:30 am-5:30 pm PST so don't bother calling them until tomorrow. I plan to try calling and complaining about this. I don't know if they will be very helpful at this number but it is worth logging the complaint this way too.
They need to stay on top of things like this better.

Please help report this idiot. A couple of comments: 1. Don't bother calling tommorrow. Monday is a holiday in the US (Presidents day). Wait until Tuesday. 2. Probably not illegal. In bad taste? Yes. Should this person even own a cat? No. I would suggest letting the auction go through since the final result is positive. this won't person won' t be the one to own this cat. 3 The link doesn't work. Sherry - 16 Feb 2004 05:21 GMT >1. Don't bother calling tommorrow. Monday is a holiday in the US >(Presidents day). Wait until Tuesday. I doubt e-bay recognizes President's Day as a holiday. Hardly any businesses are closed; it's mostly just courthouses, post offices, banks and such. I'm calling tomorrow. Sherry

?ViewItem& apparently is mising from the first link.

Aw, that's truly disgusting. We should all send complaints to eBay. I just hope someone doesn't see this as some poor animal to use for a personal form of abuse. The ad is almost an invitation to such a person.

QBall - 16 Feb 2004 19:21 GMT The "shipping" issue is very serious and would undoubtedly result in serious distress or injury to the cat. As such, the vendor should be located and prosecuted for intent to commit an act of cruelty to an animal - the evidence means it would stand up in court. If we ensure that we make the winning bid for the poor creature and at close of auction, get the guys address and arrange to collect in person - the local enforcement authorities can then be notified and charges brought. If we don't make a winning bid, the prospects for the cat could be very unpleasant. I would do so myself, but I'm in the UK.

I truly wish I could agree with you. But having worked abuse cases, this case wouldn't make it to court. Very sad, but very true. The best anybody could hope for is that animal control is notified in that town, they pay a visit and the loser relinquishes the animal. With a little publicity people always stand in line to adopt high-profile cases like that. Unless the DA and judges in that particular town are *extremely* sympathetic toward animal issues. It would be a rare thing though. Animal abuse laws/enforcement of laws have a long way to go.

I cringe at the thought of what will happen to this cat.
Even though it was an illegal auction it would have accomplished a good thing, get this cat out of the hands of this moron. -------------------------------------------- "Finally a member of the Jackson family finds another young boy to victimize." -------------------------Jimmy Fallon on SNL referring to Justin Timberlake

NickKnight - 17 Feb 2004 20:10 GMT >You can't guarantee it would have gone to a better owner, unfortunately. Yes would have gone to a better owner if the auction went through and I won.
But then it could be argued anything is better than this slimeball who owns the cat now. -------------------------------------------- "Finally a member of the Jackson family finds another young boy to victimize." -------------------------Jimmy Fallon on SNL referring to Justin Timberlake

But if the US-equivalent of the UK's Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals had been sent round to rescue the creature, it's sure it would have found a better home.

'cedes - 18 Feb 2004 08:37 GMT I did not get a chance to see this auction. Was some idiot trying to auction off his cat? What was the deal? I hope that the cat gets into a safe and good home!

Apparently some clown was trying to auction off his cat, sounds like maybe it had urinary tract problem. (Urinary tract inrection?)
My inclination was to have the auction go through, I was going to try and bid on it to get the cat out of the hell it is in now.
Apparently ebay shut the auction down.
Yes, auctioning pets off on ebay is illegal, but in this it gets the cat out of the hands of some clown who apparently hates this cat. -------------------------------------------- "Finally a member of the Jackson family finds another young boy to victimize." -------------------------Jimmy Fallon on SNL referring to Justin Timberlake

I know ebay has rules against selling cats but I hate the idea of this clown being anywhere near a cat.
I'm very tempted to bid on it.

RedHedd - 16 Feb 2004 22:43 GMT Thanks, everyone - The listing has been pulled from eBay. Some of my Pet Talk friends also contacted the Sheriff in the Florida county where this loser apparently lives. Hopefully the cat is safe and the authorities will deal with this loser.

SueNY - 19 Feb 2004 04:46 GMT I reported it to Ebay and emailed the seller. I got a nasty reply, calling me names and insulting me. The only part suitable for a family newsgroup is:
"How dumb can you be? Like all the others who keep emailing me you're obviously too stupid to realize it's just a JOKE!"
*sigh* My prayers are with that poor cat.

NickKnight - 19 Feb 2004 17:53 GMT > "How dumb can you be? Like all the others who keep emailing me you're >obviously too stupid to realize it's just a JOKE!" I put this in the same category as the clowns who decided to "joke around" by tying a dog to some railroad tracks on an active train track. You can guess the result.
The final result is they were arrested and did jail time.
