They're running it on the front page of today's paper. They're still
looking for abandoned pets in NO. Teams of volunteers have managed to
rescue 8000 so far. But thousands more remain.
Also, the story said the Humane Society is urging Congress to pass a
bill that would require state and local emergency management agencies
that receive federal funding to allow pets to be included in evacuation
plans. I would think that messages to your Congress-people would be in
order asking them to support such a bill.
The story also said that Texas suspended rules barring pets from
shelters as Hurrican Rita approached. And the state's Homeland Security
chief urged evacuees to take their pets with them. Kudos to them!
All I can say is that I don't need someone else to urge me to take my
pets with me if I ever have to evacuate my home (which in northern
Minnesota is highly unlikely). I would never, EVER abandon my pets to
the elements no matter what. The video of that poor little white dog
and the kid broke my heart and I would never want to put my kitties
through that.

Personally that cop would have got the beating of his life if he would have
done that to anyone in this group specaillay when the HSUS was there taking
animals and tagging them when that happened
Take my friend from my arms and see why this american has the right to bear
arms just my opinion

Give it a rest - this is a cat group, not a weather one.

The original poster's topic DOES concern cats--and not just the
weather--so it is right on topic for this group.
