I have got two (2 year old)cats and I rescued another 2 kittens approx 7
weeks ago. For the first week I fed the cats and the kittens in different
rooms (cats on adult food and kittens fed on kitten food) until they all
got used to each other, after the first week I started to feed them all
together in the same room and they all kept there cool!! and now at meal
times I have a big loud chorus from them all!! (I love it) The only
problem I had was they all like to have a little bit of each others food,
they start off eating from their individual bowls then it is like musical
chairs they like to swap around to each others, I'm on vidual everymeal
time to make sure everyone gets their fair share!! But with all the
swapping the kittens eating adult cat food and vice versa I now just buy
adult food for them all. The kittens are now 16 weeks old, they are very
healthy and are getting bigger and stronger every week. I had a 15year
old grey cat (Sandy, who passed away a year and half ago)he was a great
big cat, he was never sick, and he was not fed on kitten food when he was
a kitten (it might not have been out then).
I was just wondering did anyone have similar situation to mine and what
your views on this subject is.

while it is obviously better for kittens to have kitten food, if they are in
good health and growing nicely, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Maybe
sneak the kittens some food separately so they get the extra fat and protein
they need. I used to take a card board box and cut a hole in it so the
kittens could get in, but the adult cat couldn't when I needed to separate.
Unfortunately the adult cat was smart, and pushed the box till she got her
paw in the food, but if you put it in a corner it should work.
