My cat loves to get on my husband's shoulders. She uses it almost as a
window sill and they have this game going where he takes her on a
"tour" or the house and sometimes outside.

However she did this long before the tour. She also did this with the
previous male owners (two of them). She doesn't do it much with
females, but did try to get on my shoulders one time...way too heavy
for me (she's already too heavy, 20 lbs)

I have had cats through the years but NEVER had seen this behavior
until we got Allie. Have you had this happen, and...more importantly
does it have a meaning?

They all love to climb, and the extra height maybe why she likes
shoulder-riding. I allowed one of ours once to do that, and never did it
again,..why? She dug in her claws when I wobbled a bit!!

OTOH,..I play a game with our house-male, he hunts any moths which get in
the house. He'll sit meow when he sees one on the ceiling,..I then pick him
up by his rear-quarters and raise him up,..he them swots at the hapless
moth. He often catches it between his front paws and waits till I put him
down so he can slowly open them to reveal said moth. Amazing co-ordination
onhis part.

Here is something I learned about moths and indoor
cats, during my last visit to the cat vet.  We have three
*indoor only* cats.  During their last annual check up,
two of them tested positive for parasites.  I asked the vet
how such a thing was possible, given the fact all three cats
never set foot outdoors.  She (the vet) asked if any of them
chase insects, especially moths?   Two of the cats do, in
fact, chase insects, including moths.  The vet told me that
moths harbor parasites, and if the cats eat the moths, the
cats will get parasites.  I have seen two of our cats eating
moths and other insects they catch.

Thanx for the alert to that one.  He only gets a few each year,..but I won't
be playing that game with him anymore.

I've had a number of cats do it.   It's great when the cat is 1.5
lbs., not so great when the cat is 16 pounds.

They do it for several reasons:
1.  cats like high places.
2.  the cat is near the alpha cat (you.)

Max will often sit half on the back of my chair and half on my shoulder.
Occasionaly he manages to drape himself entirely across my shoulders. I
suspect he'd come along for a ride, but I find it's a bit too akward of a
position to put up with for long, he's about 13 pounds.

Kuchar rides on my shoulders every once in a while
but used to jump on my wives several times a day.
I'm not sure why he doesn't any more. Maybe because
the meals were taking too long to cook. : -)

I take it as a sign of trust and affection.
