So, my new cat, I had to bring him to the vet once when I got him
because his eye was red. And then I had to bring him a week later
because the medicine wasn't working, so I got new medicine for his eye.
That was about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I'm not bringing him back again because
I'm not going to waste money if they aren't going to do anything. His
eye has got a little better anyway, it's not so red anymore.
Anyway, I remember the vet told me he has a small heart murmur, is that
ok? Does anyone elses cat have one?

Don't accept Triple Antibiotic Ointment as a medication for eyes. It's
basically a lubricant - artificial tears with a kick, as one of our CVTs
says. Try terramycin - especially if it's a cat from a shelter, terramycin
works well for us. Otherwise, if there's not really any swelling, try
L-Lysine. Lysine works very well for a lot of people when the eye infection
is from herpes virus.
Heart murmurs are rather common. If it's just a small murmur, there
shouldn't be anything to worry about, but it's something to make sure any
vet is aware of. They'll need to keep track of it and see if it progresses
in the future. From what I understand, it can cause complications during
surgery.

Terramycin was the first thing they gave me, then it was something else
with a longer name. Neither worked. Yeah, the vet is who pointed out the
mummer to me.

Heart murmurs are graded via severity. My Sammey has a grade 3 (of 6 with 6
being worse). They categorize just by sound. My vet wanted Sammy to have a
echocardiogram before his dental because she was concerned about the
anastesia and the heart murmur. The echo came out OK and he had his dental.
I also have another kitty, Spot who also has a murmur. I do not know its
grade but it has not gotten worse with time. Years ago I also had another
kitty with a murmur. He was also hyperthyroid and I was told it is not that
uncommon in hyperthyroid kitties.

One of mine had a heart murmur as a kitten. He grew out of it. Heart
murmurs are common in some kittens because they are growing so fast,
their little hearts can't keep up. When they stop growing, or growning
so fast, they're fine.
