I could only answer 2 out of the 7 questions. The other 5 were either
too vague or they did not offer an appropriate response.
I scored 14.3%, whatever that means.
It also told me:
You're a mutt --
part cat, part dog
The rest of it read like a horoscope - IOW, completely meaningless and
so vague and complimentary that the shallow among us would readily
embrace it.
Here's the reality:
I used to be bigoted against cats. When I was growing up, my family
always had a dog. I loved the dogs I grew up with and I had mixed
feelings about cats. I love animals in general, but cats seemed
distant. They wouldn't come when you called, and they sometimes did
bad things when they were allowed to run loose. The least of their
crimes was leaving paw-prints on cars - the worst of their crimes was
taking a dump on the vinyl roof of a car.
As I matured, I came to the position that cats were fine as long as
they weren't mine. A little over a year ago, I adopted one. I could
have ignored the kitten, or I could have turned it over to the SPCA,
but this was a living breathing creature who I'm sure would have died
had I ignored it.
I took her home after a checkup at the vet and she's been here ever
since.
She is definitely a cat, but exhibits many traits which I only
associated with dogs before. Tonite when I came home from work, she
came to greet me as she often does - not always, as a dog would do,
but often enough. I saw her look up from her perch on the window as I
came in - I thought, WTF, you dumb cat. Who else would be coming
home?
But she came over and laid down and basked in a little attention I
paid her.
I used to think I was a dog-person, but now I understand that such
terms are bigotted. I now understand that she is as beautiful a
creature as any dog and that she simply has her own different
personality (or psychoses as the case may be).
I can tell she loves me and I love her too.
Dogs and cats have different personalities, but they share many traits
in common and even among dogs and cats, there is great diversity.
It's wrong to stereotype either species. Both kinds are living
creatures and are capable of love and devotion. But they are
different and they express themselves differently.
But when my cat jumps up on my lap and purrs or when she curls up next
to me at nite, I know she is just as loyal to me as any dog ever could
be.

My DH is a reformed dog person- when we first got married, he let me get a
cat under duress, but they both ignored each other for about a year. After
we had our first baby, he saw how good she was with him, letting him drag
her all over the house, never scratching, he got used to her, and started to
make friends. Then when a feral cat turned up on our cat-less doorstep
(landlord had banned cats) he demanded I let her in and feed her-every
night, until she moved in. He even hid her from the landlord and named her
Jasmine!! He's still more of a dog person, but Jasmine's re-training him!!

Ben--my experiences are much the same as yours. When I was growing up,
our family always had big dogs, and I loved them. Never thought in a
million years that I would ever have a cat--felt they were too
unfriendly, disloyal, no personality, etc.
Then, 9 years ago, my husband and I got adopted by our first cat,
Blackjack. Bart (another stray) moved in the next year. And we
adopted Lilo and Stitch within the last couple of years (Blackjack died
in 2002).
I must say that I love these guys every bit as much as I loved the dogs
from my childhood. You are right--dogs and cats have different
personalities--and express their feelings differently. But both are
equally precious.
Thanks for your post--couldn't have said it better myself.--r3
