The Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards Act, H.R. 3858 (PETS Act),
would require state and local authorities to include pets and service
animals in their disaster evacuation plans. You could help save thousands of
people and pets from anguish-even loss of life-during the next major
disaster, just by asking your U.S. Representative to support this bill.
Help prevent what happened after Katrina from ever happening again. Take
action now.

Yes. Contact your local government official and spur them on to
set up a frame work for evacuations in the future.
Around here there is no frame work in place around here. If an
evactuaion is needed around here they put the frame work
in place at the time of the storm which will be in February
when we get buried under a Blizzard of 4 feet of snow and the coast
is getting flooded. Of course they will wait until there is a foot
of snow and the roads are impassable before ordering the evacuation.
That is what happened 25 years ago in the Blizzard of 78, it occurred
again in the blizzard of 2004 and you know what, it will happen again
the next blizzard.
There is absolutely no planning for these evacuations in advance.
They broadcast stuff on the radio/TV/internet which does no good if
you have no power for the TV, the internet is down, and you have no
batteries for the radio. And if you're burred under a foot of
snow/ice you're not going to be able to evacuate anywways.

A bit of background information here:
Thousands remained in New Orleans after the evactuaion prior to
Katrina. Some of those stayed in New Orleans because they had
no transportation, didn't have moeny to rent a car, fly out of the
area, etc.
Some of those thousands opted to stay and not abandon their
pets. "If my pet can't come then i'm staying here with them."
I can't blame them. I wouldn't leave my cats behind either.
After all they are my family......

i thought about that and my cat missy, if i knew i was going to end up
dying by staying with missy, so be it. we'd be together and she would'nt
have to die alone and wondering why her friend left her behind.
