I was at the vet on Tuesday and they gave me Terramycin to put in his
eye because he has a upper-respiratory infection. I've been doing it,
but it's still red. I'm not sure if I've been doing it right, I've been
trying to hold it open but he is being such a bitch about it. Any help
on how to apply this easier? I want his eye to get better.

Hi,

Yes, I had to put ointment in my kitten's eye as well. Try sitting down
and holding him gently between your legs then open his eye as much as
you can and put the ointment in. Then with the eye closed massage it
around a little. My vet also said she insisted people give their pet a
treat after every dose. I did this and I think it made things a little
easier.

All the best.

Good advice--and let me add only that you should have the cat facing in the
same direction you are.  Cats will back away from things they don't like;
and if the cat's in your lap facing the same direction as you, it can't
back very far. You might also try tilting cat's head back (GENTLY!). That
might make it open its eyes a little.

Try wrapping the little fellow in a towel or cut the toe out of a large sock,
and slip it over him.
good luck (you may just need it ;-} )

I'm not sure if I'm getting it right guys. I stick my finger with the
TerraMycin on it in his eye, and close it, after him being a bitch
about it, but his eye is still red. It's Sunday and I started last
Wensday.

Don't put it on your finger!  You're getting germs from your finger in his
eye.

What we did:  Hold cat firmly (when I did it alone, I got the cat in the
meatloaf position on the floor, then knealt down withthe cat pinned between
my lower legs), use one hand to hold the affected eye open as wide as
possible, squeeze an amount from the tube of meds (it may 'ball up", but
that's OK), and apply right along the lower eyelid.
