Anyway, so I had my sister hold on to my cat for a couple of days until
I got into town to pick him up. I think he picked up conjunctivitus or
something at her house. He's around 3 mths, one of his eye is red, i
got some sleep/brown discharge out of it and put saline in it (he
didn't like that) but it's still red. I'm going to take him to the vet
Tuesday I guess.

Oh, another thing. I got him a collar that says "safe pet" on it, and
it has a bell and a tag my sister made for him at pet-smart with his
name and my cell. He doesn't like it and keeps running in circles to
get it off, I guess I should just make him get used to it?

Cute!  Enjoy your new baby.  He's a beautiful kitten.

He'll get used to it.  One of our rescues already had a collar, but we added
a tiny bell.  He kept looking for where the sound came from, but he got used
to it in a couple of days.

Is it too tight? I always take the bells off these collars.

I didn't think of that, but I always think there should be at least a
finger or two of space between the collar and their little necks.

Small bells are okay as long as the collar fits properly.  My Bailey wore a
bell on his collar for years before one of our newer additions kept
stealing his collar.

Kittens can get in to serious trouble if they are wearing collars.
(They can get in to serious trouble period.) I don't like collars
much and Petsmart doesn't allow us to leave them on cats in their
adoption center. Be sure it will slip easily over his head or break
if he gets hung on something. Never use a rigid dog collar on a cat.

On the eye problem, if it's mild your vet will probably give you a
tube of tetracycline opthalmic ointment to put in his eye. I buy that
ointment at my feed store (for under $10) so I can catch problems
early. Do not ignore it, I've had to have eyes removed from rescued
kittens because they weren't treated.

Continue the saline until you get to the vet.  It won't help that much, but
it might keep it from getting worse.  Conjunctivitus is very problematic in
cats, especially very young kittens, and can cause permanent damage.  Do
exactly as the vet recommends.

Okay, I'm going to call Tuesday, I guess when it will be open again. I
think it may be an allegy to something at my sister's, like a shag
carpet or something.

Your kitten may have gotten something in his eye, or caught the conjuctivitus
from another cat.  The vet can definitely take care of it.  Glad you're
taking him.

Oh, did you name him yet?

I don't think it would be another cat, because there is none at my
sister's place. She did mention it wasn't there when she got him, grrr,
that girl.

Yes, I named him "Zeitgeist."

If it's what several of my kittens have had then it's a bacterial
infection: they didn't catch them from the other cats, but by getting
scratched around the eye area.

Treatment is simple (couple weeks of dabbing ointment in the cat's eye
once or twice a day), but it *must* be treated.
