Well, my sister found a friend at school who needed to get read of a
cat, so I'm getting it. If anyone has read my posts from the past
couple of days, I was looking for one.
Apparently, he is three months old and has all his shots. He has,
however, not been spayed/neutered, is he too young?
She also has the litter box, cat bed, etc - this all works out great.
Here is a picture, I don't know what breed he is:

Oh, he is wonderful and beautiful! I suspect that he's at least part
siamese, but I can't tell for sure.
IMHO, 3 months is not too young to be neutered. Also, IMHO, when a male is
neutered at a young age, they tend never to spray.
You will both be very lucky to have each other!
Keep us posted, okay?

Slightly. I'd wait 'til 5 months or so; if you don't, then at about 6
months you will have to deal with spraying, wandering (leaving even) and
owners of unspayed female cats giving you dirty looks.

umm he ? she ?

Perhaps, but it's standard practice with animal rescue to have them
neutered or spayed as early as 3 months and they seem to fare well. We
have 2 male and 1 female rescues that were all neutered/spayed at that age
and they have been fine.

Uh, she - the current owner, he - the kitten.

He's beautiful.
Some vets will neuter at 3 months, but others think it's too young. All I
know is that my one male cat who was neutered early is the one who has a
tendancy to have urinary tract problems. The other 3 (neutered between 5
to 9 months old) don't have any such problems.

Okay, the girl who is giving it to me wrote back. The breed is a
"domestic short hair mixed with a lynx point siamese."

Aha! I thought there was some siamese in there. He's a very handsome boy.

Okay, now do me a favor and stop referring to "him" as "it". After you hold
him just once, you'll never again be able to think of him as an object.

Thats a version of one of the most common ways of getting free
kittens: if you tell enough people you want one, one will turn up

He's a bit too young to be removed from his mother - you will have to
socialize him - and perhaps a bit too young for neutering. Because he
is so young, I recommend getting another, older cat to act a his
teacher.

How so? Seeing as the recommended ages is from 12-14 weeks.

3 months is usually about right.

Three months is right at the low side of that range, and to me, the
kitten just looks too young.
