We have an eight year old cat who has recently decided to start leaving
'little surprises' on the carpet for us. Now normally this behaviour is
associated with my wife and I going on vacation, the cat sees the luggage,
knows that means we are going somewhere and then she demonstrates her
displeasure with the situation.
Recently, for no reason she did it. Some people have mentioned that it could
be the litterbox is too dirty for her, we do have two cats and use two
litterboxes that are kept clean. My wife thinks that it could be that we
both did not show here that much attention this week and that is was a
protest. Most books say this type of behaviour is 'your cat is trying to
tell you something', yeah but what ?
There was no luggage, the litterboxes were clean, her routine was not
changed in any way, it was a deliberate act of mis-behaviour, so what is the
message ?
I love both my cats but nothing makes me more mad than a cat soiling the
carpet. Carpet is now soaked in natures miracle hoping that she doesn't
revisit the same spot again.

Could be she is wanting to tell you she is sick and needs medical
attention.

She was there recently and received a clean bill of health. I think this
is more of a protest of some kind. She gets upset when either we are going
away ( which we are not ) or someone coming to stay with us, again this is
not happening soon.

Did they do blood work on her? Certain medical problems aren't evident
unless their bloodwork is out of whack.

If I were in your shoes, I'd get a second opinion.

Get her to the vet, it could be medical problems - anything from somethng as
"simple" as a urinary tract infection to kidney or liver disease. If it is
a UTI antibiotics should take care if it. She may also have diabetes, which
can cause them to pee more - a good indicator of this is if she is drinking
more. (which can be treated w/insulin (though no cure)). Don't delay, get
her to the vet soon!

The first thing to do is visit the vet and have the vet rule out an
underlying medical problem.
After you rule out medical causes you could look at
other causes. For example does the cat associate cold
winter weather with an automatic trip by you and your
wife to Florida?
The first step is to rule out an underlying medical
problem.

Strange.
If it were territorial, it would be peeing - but taking a dump on the carpet
for our cat, is usually about retribution for some "slight".
If he's been prevented from doing something he shouldn't (undermining his
authority), such as getting on the table - he'll straight away go and take a
dump in his litter tray.
Maybe yours is just taking it to the next level.
You'll have to keep careful track of what's happened before he took the
dump.
Sorry I can't be much more help - hope you find the answer soon.
